Thanked: 3225JM Fraser's Shave Cream first impression
Got a second order in the other day of soaps and creams, one of which was JM Fraser's Shaving Cream. If uou are looking for "ze beste" shaving cream read no farther. If you are looking for a good shaving cream that won't break the budget read on.
Just did a full, for me, 4 pass shave with this cream using a Muhle Retro silver tip badger brush and face lathering. The lather was slick and rich but not overly thick. The shave was smooth with plenty of glide and next to no sting from the alum block. The only downside was my fault when the spike point full hollow gave me a nip reminding me to pay attention to the spike point. In short JM Fraser's shaving cream gave a more than adequate shave.
From my POV you have a perfectly good shave cream in a quantity 3X that of an AOS shave cream tub, 450 ml vs 150 ml, at a cost of less than a single AOS tub. Is it as good as AOS shave cream? Maybe not but it is not too far behind and certainly not as far behind as it's price point and volume might indicate to some.
I left the scent to last as it has no bearing on how the product performs as far as allowing a close and comfortable shave. To me it has a commercial lemony scent that I do not find objectionable in the least but some may. To me a lemony scent is associate with fresh and clean.

Thanked: 3225Just a quick update:
I had wondered about the lather being on the thin side and then heard about a bad batch having been made in 2013. I emailed Mr. David Kaufman and explained the thin lather situation and asked if that was consistent with being possibly from the bad batch.
He promptly replied and would send me replacement product. I picked the replacement product up this evening and gave it a test face lather using an Omega boar brush. What I got was a normal nice thick lather with the same slickness as the original thin lather from the first jar.
I am now even more happy with the product and I am pleased that Mr. Kaufman stood behind the product and resolved the issue quickly. It is not an everyday occurrence that you get such a prompt satisfactory resolution to a problem. Mr. Kaufman deserves high praise for his handling of the situation.

Thanked: 1195I just re-read my old post in the other JM Fraser (necro) thread, and my opinion hasn't changed. For the money it's a fantastic product that comes in a large tub, lathers very easily and provides some nice glide. The only minus is that my variety (Polar Ice) doesn't have much of a scent, which is good for those that prefer a low/non-scented cream but a negative for fragrance lovers like me.
PS - My 8oz tub is still at least 80% full after 4 years... in a rotation this stuff will last a while

Thanked: 3225I think the scent options are gone and only the original scent in the 450 ml tub is now available unfortunately.
Couldn't wait till morning so had a 4 pass shave with a freshly honed Henckels Friodur and JM Frasers a few hours ago. Hot damn, close, comfortable, tons of lather and oh so smooth, not irritated at all. I'd say this stuff just works.

Thanked: 3225Yea, but once you add the exchange rate it is a little over $15.00 Canadian and then add your shipping on top to Canada and I am guessing it will be more than $19.00 Canadian total. Got free shipping as I got other stuff too. I have not seen any US vendor ship free to Canada.
