Proraso would be my recommendation as well. You could buy the red, blue, white and green and have a great deal of variety and great shaves for really small change.
I use the C.O. Bigelow cream from Bath and Body Works, which is rebranded Proraso green. I love it, and based on my experiences with it, I'll be taking my own advice and ordering the rest of the product line. Really hard to beat.

The Proraso White in the tub is very mild and gives a very good shave
I also found the Proraso Green to be a bit "stingy" and only use the tube cream when I travel.
Proraso is a great soap/cream for starting wet shaving.

Lately I've been using Proraso's pre shave cream. I always have but I bought a tub of Shea Moisture Shave Butter Crème a few months ago and got away from using Proraso's pre shave cream for awhile, using the Shea Moisture product as a pre shave cream only
CVS Pharmacy was selling this at 50% off at the time so I bought a container. After doing some research, I found no one was using this as a shave cream but, I read where one wet shaver tried using it as a pre shave cream and liked it so I followed suit and enjoyed it so much, I went back to CVS to score another tub, and bought the last one they had
FWIW, I've never tried this shave butter crème as a shaving cream, only as a pre shave and have been totally happy using it strictly as a pre shave cream. Shea Moisture sets up your beard as well as Proraso Pre Shaving Cream, but where the two differ (mainly), Proraso has the menthol and eucalyptus dealeo going on, the tingle as some say. I like it too
