For you, I'd try Proraso red. Either cream or soap.

Do a little reading on this site for Proraso. I don't think you will find too many complaints. I use the red cream frequently. I can assure you its good stuff. I'd offer up a more robust choice, Xpec, but that is not in the budget you mentioned.

Agree with OCDShaver all the way!

Proraso Red...awesome stuff, great scent, no problems lathering, all round a can't go wrong choice. In my opinion, it's probably the best shaving soap you can get for the money, and it holds it own against any of the premium soaps IMO.

    Cheers!

I still say Arko is the best bang for the buck soap out there but it doesn't match this gentleman's preference in the scent department. Arko is a very light scent and some people absolutely hate it. But to me the lather is really good and the soap is really cheap. But its not bay rum or sandalwood....or anywhere close for that matter.

This is one of my favorites from a Canadian vendor: Pre de Provence Shea Butter Shave Soap in Tin | Fendrihan Shaving Store. I have it and I love it for every day use when I'm using a soap. Right now I'm into creams.

Just a thought, a small bottle of sandalwood essential oil will cost you very little and give you enough scent to obliterate your sinuses. Glycerine soap can be melted easily in a microwave so the oil can be added to pretty much any soap.

    Just a though.

Proraso Red is a good recommendation...I've used both the cream and the soap. As far as Proraso goes, I started with the cream in the green tube then their soap, 3 years ago so I've used the old version with the parabens and now the new version without the parabens...I like both

I've read where some knock Proraso but for me, it's a stellar performer shaving with straight razors. Anymore I just use the soap and I really like the red jar with the sandalwood in it. I bought a tube of the red cream on another forum used as at the time, the soap wasn't released yet

I have to mention...I prefer to use the Proraso Pro boar bristle brush with it. Similar to the Omega #'s 48 and 49 yet the Proraso pro has a shorter loft I prefer as it is not so floppy as the 48, and 49...The Italian Barber in Canda sells the Proraso Pro boar bristle brush, not that you asked, and he also carries the entire Proraso line. BTW, Omega makes the Proraso Pro shave brush

You also asked about Bay Rum scented soaps....Barrister and Mann in Boston sent me a sample of Bay Rum soap with my last order. I like the scent quite a bit and it makes wads of lather if that's your thing, just add drops of water and swirl your brush on top of the soap. It will build all the lather you want

this is the bay rum soap sample...it has a tan tint to it...lovely stuff!

here's another soap you might be interested in down the road...

a friend sent me this sample in a baggie...it's Vitos, an Italian soft soap (some call Croap) that has a marzipan (almond) scent. totally veggie but skads of slick lather for me

this is Vitos using my Proraso Pro brush

Another shot of Vitos sinkside with a razor. Italian Barber was selling a kilo of Vitos for about $25 last I checked

    Best,
