Thanks every one! I intend on getting the orange kit with the badger brush. Today is my first day on SRP so it is great to know I can come here for help!

I currently use the VDH kit. I love it. It is the green set. Other than my travel brush i currently have no other ones to put it up against. But it definitely gets the job done. I use many other soaps, but still use the vdh about twice a week. I too started with a shavette with long personna blades. I now use traditional straights and I'm never going back. 4 months in now. Use this forum and the members. Anyone will be glad t help you in anyway. Use the wiki (library) read all about straights . Understanding the tool itself helped me best.

    Happy shaving!

This is the kit I started with. I upgraded from it eventually but it's a good way to learn the ropes.

I ust recently bought this kit. If you have a Target store near you, check that out as I got mine for $19.99. I like it a lot. The soap is nice.

the luxury kit comes in a brown and black box. It comes with a ceramic black mug instead of a green and blue bowl. The brush is eh, but it will get you started. The luxury soap is actually not bad; I put a bit of proraso on top with mine, oh and it comes with an acrylic brush and razor stand as well; so plus in my book. I picked it up for $24.99 at walmart. I bought the other kit about six months ago for a spare bowl and brush; but the brush just fell apart The brush in the luxury kit is better, but still not all that great; I picked up the luxury kit to keep at my girlfriend's with my merkur DE.

This is the one you're looking for...sorry it's in stores only though.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

There are two versions of the orange box kit the in store walmart boar brush set and a badger brush version. Here is Amazons listing Van Der Hagen Men's Luxury, Shave Set.
