Opinions on these soaps for my shave den
I've been looking at different soaps to see what i might like to try, and I'm thinking of putting together 4 or 5 soaps that I can keep stocked in my den that would allow me a lot of variety day to day.(I prefer creams, but I think a few soaps should be represented in my den as well. There is a cream thread in this forum as well)
I have come up with a tentative list. Keep in mind that I can get and do use VDH deluxe regularly. I have no idea how the rest of these soaps actually smell, feel or work. I also set a limit of $15 per puck. Keep in mind also that I am a preacher, so I don't want to smell like tobacco or liquor, either.
Do you think the following soaps would provide a good variety of soaps for a shave den, so that I might have a good set of choices to go to?
Proroso red(I have Eucalyptus represented in the list of creams I'm considering, so the green is out),Green Mountain Soap Cheaha, Edwin Jagger Aloe, Geo F. Trumper Rose, Musgo.
(For comparison/contrast, the list of creams include C.O. Bigelow, Real Shave Co., D.R. Harris Almond, TOBS Sandalwood, Geo F. Trumper Coconut.)Last edited by SRNewb; 03-29-2014 at 12:28 AM.

Ok you will get a lot of answers but listening to you about budget
Try Cella. MWF. And Stirling. The Stirling is an Artisan soap with lots of good smells and top notch lather. Cella and Mitchell's Wool Fat are top in performance for the money Hope this helps. Tc. Forgot you won't go wrong with your Proaso choice either“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Thanked: 1184I have a limited experience with soap and cream varieties. Mama Bear's has a lot of scents and her soaps lather up almost like a cream for me. Al's makes a cream I use that has some very interesting scents. I know both companies have sample packs cheap enough for your nose to test out the different flavors. I like the woodsy smells myself :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 375I would like to suggest
Mikes Natural soaps - I've tried Cedar & Pine (Nice Pine smell and not the cleaning kind), Barber shop (clean scent), Vetiver (scent is a little much for my taste, grassy?) so far listed in order of preference
La'Toja (mild scent, face feels awesome when done shaving. available in a cream or stick)
Palmolive (good performer, scents mild but makes me feel a little stuffy/ sleepy) not sure what's up with that....
L'Occitane Cade (Juniper, awesome scent wish they made a splash to go with this)
I'm sure there's more, this is just the soaps I've tried and liked - I don't like strong intrusive scentsCHRIS

Thanked: 3227When you said Musgo did you mean this soap Musgo Real Shave Soap - Claus Porto- 125gr ? If you did I would check the reviews on it. Musgo Real also has glycerine bath soaps which are not shave soaps. They also have a nice line of shave creams.

I've really been enjoying Barrister and Mann soaps as of late. Why not look into their Seville soap. It's a really nice lather, fallow based, and has a great citrus/patchouli/bergamot scent.

I hope you like it. I keep mine in a dedicated scuttle, cover it in water while I shower, and leave it plenty wet while I work up my lather. It's said to like a little more water than most. I like the Seville and Roam. The Bay Rum is nice too. The lather is slicker than whale sh!t and leaves my face feeling great.

Where are you buying B&M? Will it meet my price cap ($15)?
