Old dog new tricks
I have been shaving for about 50 years or more and have not used that many different soaps. Like most young guys I used what ever dad had in the bath room. when I went in the service I ended up using the canned foam. Gillette I think. then I went from shaving soap to plane old bath soap and shaved in the shower to save time. now that having time is not the problem I'm using a straight razor and enjoying the shave. I said all that to say this I went to a friends house Monday and we talked about many things but mostly about razors and honing . I watched him clean up an old wade and butcher and it really looks nice. he then sat down and honed it and one that I brought. I got to watch and learn a little more. after the honing came the testing. He showed me the bath room where he test shaves the razors and that's when I found out about the different soaps. I don't know the name of the soap or cream I used but it was great. it took very very little on the end of a wet brush to create the best lather I have every used. I stropped the blades and each one seamed to glide over the beard and if it wasn't for a smooth face I would not have know I was shaving. no nicks or weepers or red colors anywhere. There is a difference in soap and or creams. I have found out after all these years that for the difference in the shave the cost is well worth it. I will be trying many different products now . Thanks Lynn for teaching this old do new tricks.

Be careful! It starts with one tub or puck or tube. Next thing you know you are overflowing cabinets with the stuff. I myself am a soap an cream addict. I admit it an I am ok with it. All that being said, there are several companies that sell samples of the different makers an scents. Its a nice cheaper way to try new products.

You know your right. I just ordered a blood orange and a lime can of SRD shaving soap. the trouble is I already have 2 cakes of Van Der Hagen plan and on scented plus the two already in use that i'll have to PUT IN File 13. I don't think they would work as bath soap. I guess soap is kind of like razors. I started with 1 and now 30.

As of lately, I've really come to enjoy Barrister and Mann. If you are looking for something new to try, check them out. I'm loving them. And while you hear many lament over a soap that is no longer made or was reformulated to the point where it's no longer any good, there are still so many good ones to choose from. Enough so that we end up with a cabinet full of them. Glad to hear your addiction has started.

That Blood orange scent is so good, makes me jealous as I love the smell but my face does not get along with it.
I would be honored to do your post mortem shave with the straight, soap, and brush of you choosing just put it in your will/ last wishes.
My misses has done clients hair post mortem on their request ( and yes folks they asked before they checked out )It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

I got the blood orange and lime today along with some samples of soap and cologne. I used the blood orange and along with giving a wonderful shave made me hungry. Can't wait to try the lime guess i'll have to get a bottle of tequila and salt. the colognes smell good and the girls here (wife nice great nice) liked them. looks like i'm going down the right road.
