I am going to have to stop reading these threads. Seems like I am going to have to give Aramis a go too.

I don't think anyone would recommend a shave soap on scent alone which is secondary, as you said, to how well it lathers. I can't stand the almond scent of several Italian soaps but they do lather very well.

Now I'm conflicted - is the AM shave going to be Tabac or something Italian?

I do have the advantage of liking that bitter almond scent...and the disadvantage of having to choose...

But in the end it's all good, is it not?

Figured I'd throw a contender into the ring. If you have a little coin, then Czech & Speake 88 is a very good performer and manly scent, otherwise I'd go with Tabac, which to my nose is talc, subtle floral (patchouli) and something akin to musk but not as dense.

Now that is the trouble with shave soaps and after shaves, scent. The majority of soaps I have tried have been decent to very good when it comes to the lathers they produce but the scent is where the trouble starts for me.

I could not recommend Cella or Vitos Red on the basis of a manly scent as both perform well but to my nose smell like they have gone off. Rest assured they haven't. Wish I did like the scent of those two though.

Just to stir the pot some more, Valobra patchouli could be considered a manly scent and is a very good performer when it comes to the lather it can produce.

Yea, it is all good in the end.

My picks are: DR Harris Arlington, Stirling Sharp Dressed Man (based on Creed) and any good soap that comes in Bay Rum scent.

I went with the Tabac - soap.
Bed-time shave - early flight and vacation and the Tabac calls, and I packed a small jar of the Creme for the trip (fly and carry on only)

But the Cella (brick) is #1 when I return...

Smooth and Manly scented shaving...it's all good...

Believe that one of our Poets referred to this topic of Masculine Scent... "The smell of these armpits is an aroma finer than prayer".
