My face gets dry from using this shave soap.

So I bought some Proraso Shaving Soap and I use it with my Parker Double Edge Safety Razor along with some Shark Blades (Produced by some company called Lord). Anyways since Ive been using it my face gets really dry while and after shaving. Im also experiencing a lot of burning even when using aftershave.

My steps:
Put hot water on face
lather up soap
brush that nasty smelling shave soap on my face
Then shave of course.

Has anyone had experience with this shave cream?:

It sounds like your not crazy about the scent anyway :<0) How long have you been using those blades ?

The blades remark is just looking to see if you changed anything . Stop using the soap no matter what anybody else experienced and see if that helps

Had a similar experience when I bought the 300 ml tub of the green Proraso pre-shave cream once, but had never experienced problems when using the smaller tubs.
As the larger tub is in less demand, I suspect that storage conditions and time might have had something to do with it.

As I consider Proraso (e.g. in comparison with Valobra and other more traditionally manufactured shaving products) a highly "synthetic" product, my skepticism towards Proraso only grew.


I still use Proraso from time to time, but I certainly can't share the enthusiasm that some shavers profess.

Dadgum tiny texters. Makes me get my readers out, or that screen stretcher thingy. what ever happened to 12 font plus a size increase in font size for each decade of life. Works in medicine in regards to vessel diameters. I say apply it across the board. I have to buy larger laptops every so often because of this problem. When we had lined paper I never had this problem. Damn kids ask me what is paper and what does its weight mean. Lost in translation I say.

To the OP stop using stinky soap. Get a sampler. several vendors offer this option. If it stinks and has no slide/glide its gotta go. Then see if it holds up to heat (temp) for your conditions. Maggards sells a brand called Kells Passes the first two tests. Not so good with high temps.
Sampler Platters are the most cost effective way to find what works for your set up . 10 $3 soaps beats 1 $30 that doesnt work for you, Just an observation.

There are so many really great soaps out there you should never use one that you are not happy with. You my also want to think about noxema before you shave and a good balm afterwards, that is once you find your replacement soap. I find soap dries my skin fairly quickly no matter which one I am using, some are worse than others. Noxema and balm and I am good, because I am a night shaver I can get away with a nice coat of shea butter as a balm without feeling shiny in public. So go forth and acquire soaps and balms to bring you great joy.

That is weird... I don't have that reaction to Proraso (and I bought the tubes in 2008! nor the pre/post cream from the same year) but I had a similar reaction with the cream used by my barber. I didn't ask what cream it was but, based on the barber's website and the smell of the cream, I would guess TOBS lemon and lime. I experienced burning even before the blade touched my face and my face was red/sore for the rest of the morning... luckily my interview was in the afternoon.

Just shaved with Proraso White. It has a tingle from the menthol but is not a problem to me. YMMV

I have been using Noxema for a few weeks and "feel" my skin is much less dry than before using Noxema. I apply it to a wetted beard and rub it in and let whiskers absorb (adsorb?) for three or four minutes. After rinsing it off I do my normal shave routine.

My guess is the menthol is causing your issues. Lots of guys like what they call the cool and refreshing feel of it. I'm glad they enjoy it, but............

Me, it's just the opposite. It burns........and I just don't care for the scent....at all!!

Proraso has unscented and Sandalwood that you might want to try. For me they work fine.........no problems.
