Karlo, Le Pere Lucien is a fine shave soap, with rich lather, good cushion and slick glide. It is worth trying. After a while, though, the texture of the lather did not impress me, and the cushion fell short of expectation. Is it a contender for Martin de Candre? I'm afraid not. Thus far, no other soap is.

Apparently, I'm not as discriminating. I have Xpec, used Castle Forbes, SMN and still have a little of the old Acca Kappa. All very good creams but I'm about as happy with T.O.B.S. as any.

Timely thread. I have been wondering what to buy when I am done my stock - thanks.
When I began wet shaving, I went crazy buying different soaps/creams. Loved it, but... I decided to use up everything I had, and then reduce my everyday stock of creams and soaps down to two or three + some mentholated cream for those crazy hot summer days.
I am down to couple to get through before picking the three that'll do me for the next couple oh years. It's taken me a while to get here lol!! I can't wait to get some new creams!!
The only one I am convinced I am going to reorder is Acca Kappa's 1869. I know the formula has changed... but I got to try. I love(d) the stuff.David

I think there are a number of soaps/creams that are the equal of MDC and we've discussed them before. To tell you the truth I think the last incarnation of Xpec beats out MDC. I don't know about the new version though.

Using Obie's criteria of moisture, glide, cushion, and post-shave feel:
1. Catie's Bubbles
2. Strop Shoppe
3. Wickham Super Smooth
4. Barrister & Mann
5. Cold River Soap Works
6. JabonMan
7. Saponificio Varesino 'Felce Aromatica'Richard

Gentlemen,
With the resurgence of Xpec recently, in the reformulated version, I have revised the 7 Wonders list. Taylor of Old Bond Street has been edged out. The list is not in order of preference, by the way.

Thanked: 14Not to derail this thread but for those who use Xpec daily, how long does a tub last you? I'd love to try it but I have to gauge longevity as shipping to my part of the world adds about $25 to cost.
