My initial impression appears to be correct. My water is in no way suitable for lathering any soaps or creams. I'm frustrated to say the least, and will have to only use bottled water from now on. My second shave attempt was futile, even after making sure I loaded the brush properly, by the time I went to lather for a second pass my brush was dead. So I will say that xpec is great, I especially love the scent, but until I shave again using better water I won't really now how good it is. I've been having lathering issues with all my soaps and creams, and I always thought it was my technique, or brush. Well now I have a thater 26mm 2 band and I know that making lather is not rocket science, so the only culprit has to be water. Grrr! I'm so angry, all I want is what everyone else is raving about...

You could also try adding lemon juice/citric acid to your shave water to soften it as an alternative to bottled water.

    Have fun.
Good show, Lynn. I look forward to loading up regularly with the new version soon. This is great stuff.

I used the new version today. It's more of a croap than a cream, with a consistency similar to Tabula Rasa cream. I do have ideal water for lathering, as almost anything seems to lather easily, but this is certainly one of the best. Using the Obie Criteria of moisture, glide, cushion, and post-shave feel, this one has it all. After only one shave, I do think it's as good as the original, and it just bumped one of my Seven Wonder soaps off the list.

    Richard,
With the resurgence of Xpec, in the new formulation, I have revised my original 7 Wonders list in another thread. Taylor of Old Bond Street has been edged out. The original list is not in order of preference, by the way.

Is there somewhere that we can order a sample from or did some generous soul send you a dab? I sent an email to Garry of sample shop fame and while he did say he would be adding new samples to his list very soon; he did not mention xpec or anything specific.

My complimentary sample was included in a big order of razor and products from Straight Razor Designs. To my knowledge, the vendor does not offer samples of soaps and creams, including Xpec, for purchase.

Ok, shaved this morning with filtered water and a little lemon juice just to be sure, and the result was very good. Lather was abundant and so slick! My face has only previously felt like this post shave from MdC, and I think this scent is better, just my preference. It's expensive, but it is truly amazing!
