Thanked: 171FWIW, the fact that I can whip up a real nice lather does not make Williams perform any better as it still lacks slickness, cushion and moisturizing properties.
Shaving with soft water will make a difference here and I wonder sometimes whether this explains why some shavers are still enthusiastic about this product.
The often mentioned suggestion to add a few drops of glycerine only illustrates how poorly current Williams performs.
While I may have added a few drops of glycerine here and there in the past, I now reject a shaving soap that depends on this sort of addition.
IMO, adding what is necessary to make a soap perform reasonably well should really be the soap makers' job - not the consumers'.
Still, I buy a puck of Williams about once a year to see whether it has regained some lost ground, but the results are invariably all the same. 👎
I'd love to see an inexpensive product punch way above its weight, but for the moment Palmolive sticks sold in Europe at less than $1 seem to have cornered that market.

I cannot get over the smell of Arko. It is a little too clean smelling.
From their stillness came their non-action...Doing-nothing was accompanied by the feeling of satisfaction, anxieties and troubles find no place

If i can ad a comment probably my water is soft cause i have no dificults to obtain a good lather out of it. I don't ad glycerin or anything exept water and i get really good results, i'm able to shave(straight, shavette and DE) whit it. To my personal opinion the slikness is there so as the protection and the cushion, i get a no irritation, razor burn and the lather doesn't dissipate as a matter of fact the lather is stable as any other shaving soap. The only thing i found is you have to whipped a bit hard for few minutes and modern William is a really thirsty soap. Every time that i use the soap i always get great results, of course williams is not my favorite shaving soap but it's 1 of my every day soap i used it 3 or 4 day's a week, has for the smell i found it ok but i couldn't care less for me it's the results who counts. Thanked: 3228Yes whip it like it's stolen adding a bit of water as you go. You have to work hard to get a good lather from Williams. I agree it's possible to do. I do exactly that and get a good lather when I do use it. Every time I use it reminds me there are easier soaps to get a good lather from.
