Default Modern Williams mug shaving soap

I might open a old can of worm here but i just want to give my honnest opinion about the product. First i will tell lies if i say to you that Williams giving me hard time, it might be my water or my technic but every time that i use Williams i get great results. I used it for my DE my shavette and even my straight and i still get great results, i understand that Williams could be tricky to lather but when you know how to lather it to my opinion that soap is as good as any other shaving soaps on the market. Dont get me wrong i know there's better soaps on the market but for me it's just like a car brand stuff. Gino

My question to you is what other brands are you comparing the Williams to?

good question Spendur,, cause ive tried it before I knew better , and I my opinion, it is a soap that lacks a lot of what I like in a soap but to each his own , some people are happy with Gold Dollar razors too ,but I wont give up any of my razors for them, I guess also I will say its not the worst soap ive used either tc

I have old and new Williams.

The old is Ok but the new not so much. I use the new to lube the DMTs.

If i can add the soap suits me, i do understand that we all have different opinion and it's ok that's what the world made go round but i was just saying that williams suits me but doesn't mean it will suits everybody. And no i want compare williams to mitchels, cella, tabac or even martin de candre. What i'm saying is i like the results of williams and it suits me good, my face feel good after the shave it's really slick great cushion and great protection. Gino

I like it too. I prefer about 4 drops of glycerin on top of the puck. Getting the water right with it is key.
Don't soak the brush, add water by dipping the ends of the bristles and stir it in. If you get too much water, it won't work.
    Great lather! JMO

I like Williams as well and I keep it in rotation. I do think it works better with a few drops of glycerin though.

I think a lot of folks write off Williams as being cheap crap. Its cheap but far from crap its not complex as far as scent but its simple and clean. I throw a puck into a coffee cup fill it with Hot tap water let the puck melt a little bit 5 minutes maybe with your brush in the mug soaking as well. I find using a boar brush with this one gets the best results as it will load more soap. then just drain the mug squeeze the brush, load generously add a little water or face lather on a wet face. you can work this stuff up into a really dense lather if you take a little time. very good cushion in this soap if you do it right I find it better cushion than my L Occitane Cade cream which smells wonderful but find rather sub par for straight razor shaving . Nothing wrong with williams soap it works, its not my favorite but evidently a product that has stood the test of time and I can see why. An inexpensive no BS soap.

Id like to add just one thing for all the new comers to wet shaving that are having issues making lather in general. Go and buy a puck of williams its less than 2 bucks and practice practice practice if you can get williams to work you will never have a problem lathering ever again.
