You are a Great resource sir.
Ah, my friend, thank you for the kind words.

As for the top tier straight razors, I am humbled. Thank you. There are gentlemen here far more qualified than I to undertake that task. Even so, it will be a difficult to come up with a concrete list, because there are thousands of brands from various times in straight razor history. Not only that, but opinions are strong on the subject of straight razors, so you're bound to see people constantly locking horns.

We do have a list on SRP of razors to avoid. That will be of some help. The best way for newbies to learn about straight razors, the good and the bad, is to keep reading and asking questions. Also, beware of lofty praise for certain razors that many of the pros consider inferior.

And now back on track to the tiers of quality in soaps and creams . . .

Thanks, my friend. I agree on Institute Karite soap; it's a good one. I have it in the Second Tier. Institute Karite shave cream, though, is not exactly a lather wonder. Right also on the aftershave balm. I usually have a bottle of it around. Good stuff.

I'm speaking of the one that comes in the blue tub/jar. Fougere or Cologne scented and maybe an unscented. That's the one you're are referring to, that you say works very well for you, right?

I didn't care for the for Institute of Karite, aftershave feel was so, so, and the lather was underwhelming to me, I prefer Barrister and Mann Seville great scent, and I Coloniali Mango soap strong tier two's for me better grades to me

A couple I've mentioned before, Alvarez-Gomez and Acca Kappa. I wasn't impressed with Novella. It seems almost like a semi brushless shave cream to me and Aqua de Palma which didn't seem to have all that much lube to it even though these two smell good.

I received a sample of the I Coloniali Mango Kernel Balm with a recent order. I don't typically like ANY alcohol on my face after a shave, but this was a quick burn evap and then very soothing and cooling. And I LOVED the smell, it's super nice! Buying some, for sure.

Now on the other hand, the shave tonight, DR Harris Arlington in the wooden bowl, puck is a year old, loaded the brush, into the scuttle to whip up a fine lather, and a beautiful shave followed.

That's what makes a Tier 1 soap for me, consistency and ease, beautifully crafted, and a drama free shave with perfect lather every time.

Every time I use a DR Harris soap, it reminds me of my expectations in a soap and sets the bar, with the DR Harris Windsor being one of my top 5 soaps easily, loved this evenings shave.

I've been falling for the soaps from Mickey Lee Soapworks the last few weeks. From what little experience i have they seem to shave well, but they all smell amazing. So far 'The Kraken' is my favorite. It has a very fragrant sea-breeze aroma that is really refreshing.

No you must try Grand Havanna it smells of sweet cigars with a great aftershave and pomade. Worth every last cent. Met the owners in person at Maggards last year and they are as great as their products. They are good people too.
