One thing I always do is overload with product. You cant be stingy . Next time ill try a dryer brush n my horn scuttle thingy

As for Castle Forbes, the sandalwood smells like some thing other than sandalwood and the lime smells like cheap penny sweets , also one of them has turned gooey, maybe I got water in the tub?
and they just don't seem special to me. GEO almond and Original destroy Castle Forbes in my opinion ..

Agreed - those two are #1 and #1 for me, light load of brush, dash of water, and the scuttle is bursting with aromatic lather - I've had soaps that foamed easily, or tended to without the right water balance, but CF and MdC are very consistent performers for me, they will always have a spot on the front table IMO, but as always, YMMV...

For hard soaps I just swirl the brush tips in water, give it a quick shake, go to the puck, give it another quick shake to get a little water on the puck and load. I then just skim the tips to pick up a little more water and load some more. I don't go stingy because I like to load enough for my 4 pass shave.

I then build the lather on my face by skimming the tips to add a little water at a time till I get the lather the way I want it. The odd time I use a bowl I use exactly the same routine after loading.

I never soak a brush in water at any point. Good luck with your next attempt at MdC.

MDC is lathered on the face for me,,, I load the brush & build the later on the face. It's easier to control the consistency of the lather. With two days growth of whiskers, MDC is my go to soap , as the lather will build thick & stay throughout the shave.

MDC is not my favorite, but she has yet to finish below 3rd place.

I have a friend who drives around in a Yugo. He thinks it's the best car in the world and laughs at folks who drive around in these "expensive" cars. He's not in the mainstream but it's his opinion and he's entitled to it.

Personally, I think MDC and Castle Forbes and Xpec are (all around) the best soaps out there. They are technically perfect. It's just a matter of whether you like the scent. If you don't then they are worthless to you.

If your issue is getting lather from them you are doing something wrong because lather building should not be a problem.

I dont know what your water is like in your neck of the woods but in little old Egham (thames valley water. Very hard) MDC and Castle Forbes work like a dream.
MDC lathers ridiculously easy, couldn't fault in any way and I love the smell of castle forbes lime.
    Horses for courses.
If your castle forbes feels gooey try leaving the lid off, I always leave soaps and hard creams lid off for an hour or two to dry them out.

My water is hard , not good at all.
I will try to have a shave mid week if I get the time, usually I shave once per week at the weekend.
MDC will get another shot. I do like to evolve in most things and not sit stuck on one thing or another.

A few years ago I swore by proraso red n blue creams. Nower days its totally usless to me .

The only problem I have with MdC - it dries my skin. So it's exclusively summer soap for me. Al the rest - just perfect. Especially fern scent.
