I've never had any problem with soap drying out.
This includes Harris,Trumpers,Tabac,TGQ and Williams.
Of course with the exception of thw William's all the
rest are considered higher end. And the William's?
Too me it's a perfectly good soap.

Thanked: 1587I'm using the C & E sweet almond shave cream at the moment. I actually like the smell of this stuff, and the lather is great. Can't use soaps, although Ilija tells me Colleen's are excellent.

Thanked: 9The Nomad has one of the best scents for shaving soaps, imo. I find it differs from the ASB (which I don't like as much) and can't compare with the cream as I have never used it.
Unfortunately, I can't use the Nomad soap much as it irritates my skin quite often (~ half the times I use it). My face gets red as I start applying itSince I know skin preferences change, I hope I can use it more one day.
Currently I try to use it only once is a great while (enjoy te scent even more) and also to treat my hanging strops.
You can mix it for wet lather, dry lather, etc. - whichever way you like. I think it works well. If it dries - refresh as noted above and unless you have skin reaction issues you should have a great experience.
It is not a glycerine soap - in case anyone wondered
Cheers

mama bear
I finally took everybody's advice and bought some mama bear soap. It didn't come in the pretty wooden bowl but this stuff is something special.
It doesn't dry out before I have a chance to shave, doesn't irritate my skin, and its cheap!

I've only tried the After Shave Balm Sienna. After lots of trials I have found that this is the source of my neck rashes. At first I thought it may have been the Ironwood soap I got from TGQ, glad to say it's not
This is the only product of Crabtree Evelyn I have tried, and at the cost, it will be my last. Now I need to find another aftershave

yeah the nomad shave soap looked nice in the bowl and smelled nice but it dried up on me so quickly and I used the same amount of water I use with everything else. I hear the creams were better but I think you can get Taylor of Old Bond Street for about the same or less. Just got my first bowl of Taylors Avocado shaving cream and I give it 3 thumbs waaaay up!!!

Thanked: 1587Well, I just bought the Sienna cream and aftershave balm, and badger brush yesterday (now I get a 10% discount for life - mwah hahahahahah!)
The Sienna smells nice - slightly old school to my way of thinking. Cream lathers well and stayed lubricious throughout the shave. Brush is a lot softer than my Mason Pearson - perhaps better quality badger...? And the aftershave balm imparts a soothing freshness, the scent lingers but doesn't overpower.
Good stuff!

I'm not overly sensitive to many things so I'm not sure if thats what my trouble is. I started noticing while at work over the stove my neck would start itching and burning, say 3 hours after shaving. I took it for typical irritation from the shave and working over a blast furnice
Turns out it was more than just regular redness.
If your skin feels great and no itching starts... my bets are you good
