Soap vs. Cream
This has probably been of much discussion here, i have been using soap for a while now, but i have a cream that is.. alot like lotion in texture and consistency, and i have been wanting to try it but havent.
how does one go about using the cream? is there much difference in technique? do i just apply and shave or lather it in well or what? how do you guys do it?

For me I face lather. So my process is the same with soaps and creams. I soak brush while I'm I the shower. I remove the brush and get most of the excess water out. With creams I tend to load just the tips of the brush i.e. a few swirls in the cream and go right my face. I've noticed I can overload a brush very easily with creams so I'm really working on being a bit more gentle while loading the brush.
The creams I use tend to be a dab will do. Best thing to do is experiment with it. If you find you didn't get enough, load more cream on the brush. There's no 'right' way to me. Hope that helps
Phil

Thanked: 1081I face lather too but i just take an almond size dollop of cream and rub it on my fizzog then work up a lather, I find it is enough for a two pass shave. When loading up with the brush I also find i can load too much.

Thanked: 56I'm amazed that were you using shave soap without a brush. You'll find that even the soap benefits from using a brush...that's how shave products are intended to be used. You'll use a lot less soap and put in less effort.
Don't worry about adding water to the dryer cream. The water you use for lathering will rehydrate it...your soap is dryer than that cream!

Thanked: 1081Erm.. you might want to read this Making basic cream lather in three different ways - Straight Razor Place Library
I would recommend reading everything in the SRP libary too. I often go back to it, it really is a wealth of information.

I'm amazed I never read that guide before. It's short & concise, just the way I like them.

Thanked: 96I use boar brushes for soap and badger for cream. Soap I lather in tub and then to my face. The cream i put a forefinger of cream onto the brush and then mix in bowl. Never disappointed.

Creams need less water when considering the water : product ratio. The exact ratio, of course, depends on the density of a cream.
Otherwise I have found no discernible difference between cream and soap, generally speaking.Last edited by Pithor; 01-04-2017 at 11:59 AM. Reason: Rogue smiley mess up my post, dawg, yo!
