I've a suspicion the activated charcoal being used in a shaving soap has more to do with it being an exotic ingredient than it does being beneficial.

By the way, I wonder what happened to the OP. Their first post on this forum was a question about soaps on Etsy and their second was a link to soaps on Etsy. Nothing else. It looks a little fishy to me.

My thoughts exactly, ive seen this a few times from peddlers of "artisan" soaps, thats why I joked about NBC suits.
In all fairness i have read a bit about the benifits of charcoal in face washes.

I'm not trying to promote anything. It was a legitimate enquiry. I just wanted to know if anyone has experience with similar products.

Well, to be honest, I've never heard of activated charcoal being used in shaving soaps or creams before. I have used some of the best on the market and they don't have activated charcoal in them. Nor have I read on this site about any tried and true shaving soaps containing charcoal in the three years I've been an active member here.

In general, I am skeptical of homemade or artisinal shaving products. There is a lot of junk out there. I don't intend to waste my time or money on questionable products when there are so many quality, time-tested soaps out there.

Check out this thread. There are many excellent soaps to choose from with honest criticisms from people with a lot of experience.

I have LASSCo's Black Fern and The Black Rose, which are activated charcoal. Really awesome soaps.

I posted that link because someone requested an example.

I don't understand how activated carbon would be useful in a soap other than as a grit for scrubbing with.

Activated carbon has to be stored in an airtight container or it starts absorbing from its environment. If you put it is soap it would absorb from the soap until it had its fill. What good would that do you as far as the activated part goes?

Not as of yet. There's so many! I'm going to make a decision on something tomorrow.

The only charcoal I use is in aquarium filters.
