Default Smolder shaving soap by The Blades Grim

    Greetings All
I said I would post my feelings on the shaving soap "Smolder: by The Blades Grim after I received it and tried it out.
Well It came in the mail in 2 days from when I ordered it threw amazon for $14.99. I was happy about that. I like the tin it came in, I enjoyed the smell very much, it smelled to me like a deep rich vanilla and a pleasant BBQ smoke mixed together. That is the best way I can describe it. It lathered up very nicely and it gave me a smooth gliding feel while I shaved.
I don't have much to compare it to as I am new to using soaps and have only used the Van Der Hagen. It was definitely an improvement from the Van Der Hagen! I did order the Baume be. today and look forward to comparing that to the Smolder. I will post my thoughts when I receive and use it. I also have the Castle Forbes on my wish list. So that will be next.

Shaved with some of that last night. Was a Christmas present and love it! Nice, rich, creamy lather with great glide, one of the best soaps I have. This is the first time I've seen mention of it.........

It was my first shave soap I got when I started wet shaving in 2014. Unfortunately it has something in it that burns my skin. Maybe it was earlier formulations but the scent was amazing I will give it that.

    Briefly mentioned there.

Glad it's getting some mention in a more direct thread.

    Cheers

Thanks DB & SS. I found it old that there was no mention of this soap myself. I have read a bunch about the company and there razors, most not favorable but their soap I did enjoy.

Thanks for the post. I got a tin of this guy when I bought a synthetic brush (Satin Tip, The Purest) online along with their pre-shave oil and post-shave witch hazel. I found it very easy to lather when I was starting off, smooth and, yes, the smell's quite pleasant. My main gripe would be that I've seemed to go through it very quickly. Compared to a good hard soap (currently on Crabtree and Evelyn) or even Proraso, I found it just evaporated with the same amount of use. Because it's a soft soap, I've included some of what's left it in my travel kit (along with the brush) and find it works very well with limited time. My partner uses the rest on her legs (along with one of my DEs :P) and finds it easy to use. The smell did eventually get to be a bit sickly to me, as well, so I was happy for her to inherit it after I moved onto a hard soap.

Edit: Incidentally, I found the post-shave pretty good too. It was my first witch hazel and, although I've now got on the Thayer's bandwagon, I would recommend it.

ok... so since I received my Baume Be shaving cream I had not touched the other soaps. Well I decided to use the Smolder again last night just to see how it stacks up against the Baume be. I'm glad I did, I had an excellent shave with it and forgot how much I enjoyed the smell of it as well. Baume be is superior but the Smolder is a very good soap in my opinion. I had no skin burn after my shave.

Has anyone who uses this soap noticed that the lather seems to break Down pretty quickly? When I first build it (in bowl) it's great, but When it's time for my second pass it seems to have lost all its glide and loft. Or maybe I'm just taking too long on my first pass?

F.F. I usually have to make another batch for my third pass. you might be going a little slow... again I will say I've been spoiled by Baume be... that holds for entire shave and some.

Yea, I'm still a newbie, about a month of daily shaves in, so I'm still moving pretty slow, usually takes me about 10-15 minutes for my first pass. How long does it usually take lather to start breaking down?
