Review of Goat milk spicy bay rum!!

So I bought some soap from the Sundance Soapery. It's made with goat milk. Lovely smell, I was excited because I really dig the smell. It's a great soap, but it is not a shaving soap. It is very deceiving, it makes great lather, but by the time I put the brush down and picked up my razor... It disappeared. There was only traces of where I had lathered it up on my face. This was my experience, I'm very new to this, maybe it's my pre-shave prep. Maybe it's my brush or the water coming out of the faucet. I just put it in the shower and it is a great showering soap.... Just not for shaving. And I don't know but I think this Lil hobby is not for me.... That's why I went inexpensive. I haven't totally given up yet but it's princely coming down to that.

Don't give up just yet. This hobby, art and trade is most diffently something you might struggle with at first but soon real soon it becomes a passion . I've noticed out of all my soaps I have one that needs barely any water to make a great lather. The first two times I used it I added my water like I do to the rest of my soaps it basically did what you described. So experiment a little with water maybe, lather in a bowl or even lather on the face. The best thing about this crazy little hobby is all the goodies we can play with.

Keep at it. I've been shaving with warm water and hot towels for awhile now and this moring I decided to try a cold water prep and shave, my god it was nice one of my best shaves yet

If it's not shaving soap, it may not make good lather. Good lather should hold up for a full shave. Shave soaps are formulated differently than bath soaps. They are formulated to be slick, have cushion, and the better ones also moisturize your skin as well. Bath soaps are formulated to clean your skin. Lather is not necessarily what bath soaps are formulated for. Some high end bath soaps can be used as shave soaps but most cannot. What you describe is typical of a bath soap, a lather that deflates quickly. Sundance does make a shaving soap but I don't know if it is very good. Try loading the brush with the soap longer. If it still deflates quickly, it's probably not worth using for shaving. Hope this helps.

I specifically ordered the shave soap.... So IME they do not make a good shave soap. YMMV!

It's very rare to see a shaving soap made with goat's milk. Perhaps it's not well suited for shaving soap - I assume it would be more popular if it made a great lather.

I very much like goat's milk bath soaps, though.

The one and only experience I have had with "artisan" produced shave soap was a dismal failure. I will not try one again unless there are reports from multiple sources that says it works well. That experience also made me wonder if these "artisans" actually shaved using their product.

It's not just you. I bought two soap pucks from them and neither one of them would lather to a thick, rich shaving lather. Each one made thin layer of dry soap bubbles like you would find in a bath tub after a bubble bath. The thin bubble film layer would literally dissipate on my face and in my shave mug before I could even begin to shave. It was like trying to shave with a cheap bar of hand soap from Walmart. I was really disappointed. I contacted the maker and she said that she would send me a new batch of shave pucks but never did. Bottom line, this soap is only good for washing your hands if that. 👎

Buying artisan shave soaps is so often a losing gamble that I've avoided that route altogether and have gone with reliable soaps that come highly recommended by members here. Plenty of high-performing shave soaps are available in the inexpensive category. E.g., Tabac, MWF, Speick, etc. Do your research here first before plunking down your hard-earned money.
