Thread: Bufflehead Soaps

So I've been creeping on a few other wet shaving forums, and I've seen quite a few mentions of Bufflehead Soaps. I came to see what you gentlemen thought of their soaps, as they seem to be hard to get a hold of and therefore hard to test myself. Lo and behold though, and I can't see any mention of their soaps anywhere on this wonderful forum.

Is there a reason for this? Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on the soaps? Or did I just let the cat out of the bag...

I would submit that many of here have so many years worth of great performing shave soaps/creams in our crowded dens that trying out something new and unproven does not make much sense.

Maybe check back in a few years...

Nope.
I checked out the website. It's pretty apparent that the main point that they want to get across is that no soap is available. I assume the intent is to make it appear to be in high demand, but my concern is that they make no attempt to provide any other information.

Surely you jest.

Many here can put the stock of soaps and creams of a wet shave store to shame. They are addicted like crack and simply can't help themselves. Their inventory keeps growing and periodically the laggards go into the shower and are replaced with new ones.

Or some people get samples, or pass on tried stuff (ideally after thorough testing and proper reviewing)

Gentlemen,

It's hard to keep track of the U.S. made artisan soaps and creams flooding the market. The overall quality of the ones I have tried starts at average and sinks below. Yet some are made to be, on various shaving forums, as the ultimate gift to the shaving world.

Bufflehead is the eighth wonder of the world in a couple of commentaries on some shaving forums. Of course, I have checked the manufacturer's site and found the soap unavailable. At this stage in my shaving experience, I just shrug off Bufflehead, and the rest of such products, and reach for a D.R. Harris, Castle Forbes or Martin de Candre. Or scores of other superb soaps and creams available for serious shavers.

What I know about it...
I've talked to him , seems to be a stand up guy. After speaking with him it's clear that this is strictly a part time deal and he is content with how it is now. When he does have soap available he posts up the date/time it will be posted and it tends to sale out very fast.
Haven't seen any bad reviews. I would suggest following him on IG if you're interested in trying to buy some. I've seen him post it there when it's available for sale. Hope it helps.

He's a fellow Tennessean like Brian and so I have a soft spot for them. I've had the Tishimingo and the Islamorada (a Florida Key) and the scents are quite nice and the soap is good but not in my top tier. It isn't going to beat MdC, ABC, AdP, I Coloniali or Castle Forbes in its current form.

I'd probably get a replacement if I could just for the scents, but I don't chase shaving products. There's too many other great soaps that can be had day in and day out.

He is clearly making soap as a hobby and I have no time to worry about how good or bad that soap might be. I have soaps that I am sure he'll never be able to compete with, so I don't really have much interest in his product. There are far too many really fine soap manufactures that I enjoy for me to worry about when his next offering might be available.

He has a full time job that takes him out of town for two weekends per month and a new baby. He does it for the community that appreciates it, even though he gets a ton of hate because of the limited supply. Releases are around 50 tons and come in a cloth pull string bag with the Bufflehead logo on it. The tin has a cork top with the Bufflehead logo. Many people say that the post feel is so good, they do not need to add anything.

In my opinion, his soap is up there in that top tier where there's minute differences between products.
