Thanked: 133New favorite shaving soap
Decided to shave today. Decided not to use porasso or my dr harris soap. I won give away recently (month give away I won a gillette adjustable with arko soap and Formula T bay rum soap) well I tried the formula T bay rum soap and it was good but I was not a favor of the smell. The smell was shea butter and tallow and I am not a fan of shea butter but other than that the shave was good. But today...today I used arko shave soap. I placed it in a mug shaped object heated it up a little bit and had it squished down at the bottom nicely so I can just wet my brush and lather it in the mug. This lather was some of the best lather I have ever made. I picked up a 12 count from amazon for really good price. The lather just felt so nice and I really liked the light smell it has, found my new main shaving soap today. Awesome soap I have to say.

Thanked: 3225Yup, Arko is right up there for me too. I do not mind the lemony scent either. Glad you found it to your liking.

I've always kinda liked Arko too.
Explodes into lather like dropping water onto an Alka-Seltzer.
To me, it's a very clean scent.

I think Arko smells like a urinal puck, perhaps a little worse. Although it explodes with lather, there is almost non-existent cushion and glide. Did it even make it up to Tier 3 on Obie's list of soaps?

Thanked: 3225I really don't give much of a care about Tier 1 soaps on Obies list other than the fact they are a very safe bet for beginners. The rest is all personal tastes. Arko smells like any lemony laundry soap as much as it does a urinal cake. Never understood what the heck cushion was and it has enough glide for me to do a 4 pass shave and not have irritation. Personally, I could not ask more from a shaving soap/cream regardless of whose list it may or may not be on.
It does have one huge advantage over tier 3 soaps/creams and that is if you don't like it for performance or scent you aren't out much. Get a tier 3 soap/cream and don't like it you are out of pocket magnitudes more.

Gentlemen,
I actually like Arko's performance. It does everything it's supposed to do, and it produces big lather. If the soap is left exposed, however, its robust fragrance takes over the shave den. I have always grated the stick and put it in a plastic tub. I think it's worth the try. Third Tier, yes.

Hi there,
Well I hadda come see what soap you were loving and the brand is Arko! Well of course it is. Please don't mind if I am a bit facetious with you.....just goofing is all.
Ahhh, that stuff's hugely intrusive scent always brings back memories, starting back 10 years ago when I first tried it. Yep, memories from the 70s of cleaning day (Sunday) in the big slammer over in Ankara.
Ok, the lather is crazy easy to whip up, which is about the only positive comment about the stuff. Average at best cushion and slip. Does the shave sound a little louder than usual with Arko?
However, many people like this 'lightly scented' product so what the hell do I know.

I wish that it were "lemony," as I really enjoy the natural scent of lemon. Arco has a chemical, artificial scent, more like household cleaners. I prefer to not shave with anything that smells chemical, although some of the newer AOS creams I've tried have a "chemical" scent, which is probably why Obie doesn't care for AOS Oud. However, the only thing of importance is that we enjoy our shave, and Arco is certainly a terrific soap for someone on a limited budget or new to wet shaving.
