Soap goes dry before I finish
I have been using a puck of SCS Bayberry I picked up from someone on another board. It seems to dry out quickly -- much too quickly for my novice straight shaves. The Muehle-Pinsel soap that I also use lasts longer, but it also needs "refreshing" before I finish. Any suggestions for soaps that keep their moisturizing/lubricating properties longer? (I notice even Lynn in his video has to relather before he finishes.)

Would you consider using creams instead?

This happens to me as well. I usually refresh the lather on my face as I go or I dip the brush into some water and apply it to the drying lather to pick it up again. Or you can always start with more water in your mix and apply it a bit looser.
Experiment. It's fun!

Are you taking a long time to shave? I only pick the brush up to relather for the against the grain passes.

I refresh the lather a couple of times during the initial pass. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanked: 9yep, try a bit wetter mix and don't be shy to re-apply as many times and often necessary. Some people swear by reappliying after every stroke, so that the blade doesn't touch skin without lather ever
Good luck

Thanked: 0For me, creams tend to dry out faster than soaps ... but in either case, adjusting the water content when you first make the lather, and lathering again over the drying lather halfway throug takes care of the problem.
