For me it is on par with Castle Forbes. Post shave feel is second to none, lathering is relatively straight forward.

The scents are indeed quite extraordinary, quite "out of the box". Some I like, some I love and some not so much.

Oh, and yes, it is Meissner Tremonia, the German ß can be written out as 'ss'.

    Gentlemen,

I have had a running battle with Meissner Tremonia. I like the soap's overall quality and the natural ingredients used in its production. The scented ones that I have tried, however, fried my skin. OY! Also, some of the scents have been way too strong for me.

They lathered relatively well — I don't need a thick and sticky lather — but with my burning skin I have had no experience in the soap's post shave feel.

The two I have yet to try are the unscented and the Pot of Milk, and they are in the plans for my next purchase. If I recall, Meissner Tremonia in the Second Tier of soaps of my humble soap and cream category. Should these two meet my humble standard, I might change their ranking.

Meißner Tremonia is certainly polarizing. Although I liked a few of the unique scents, I was always disappointed in the lather. I could never achieve the slickness that I prefer, and ended up tossing them out. Unfortunately, they were a Tier 1 soap for me, although they seem to perform well for many others.

Big fan of Meissner for the ingredients but most of their scents too strong for me so mainly use the unscented 'Pure' and 'Pots of Milk' (not sure they still make the latter). Outstanding in almost every way, cushion, glide, post-shave feel.... Price perhaps a little high but you only live once . The paste is a little easier to lather for me but the hard puck lasts longer. Will always be in my rotation. Heard that Gentle Menthol is one of their least invasive scents and may try that now that our Belgian summer has finally arrived.

The Mint Ice menthol is a must use for the summer months. After shaving with that yer skin feels like it's been in the deep freeze.

First, it's Meißner. That is a ligature of s and z, and is pronounced like a voiceless s.

Next, someone stole my review. Heresy! But here is a copy of it on another board. Paul wrote an in-depth analysis of the scents over there, too, and everyone should read it before buying any Meißner products. These are scents for grown-ups - there is nothing "nice" or "charming" about them. They are in-your-face scents, and you either love or hate them.

As for performance, all I can say is that I have not been using any other products ever since they hit the market. Like Obie, I have tested basically everything that is in the market, maybe even more because I travel to funny countries a lot, and Meißner Tremonia are the best. My friends all think so, too, so I am not an outlier.

As for lather and glide, again, they easily outperform every other "artisan" soap I know (with the notable exception of Green Mountain Soap, an unsung hero, and actually a true artisan soap like Meißner Tremonia), but also every other product except Castle Forbes, Baume.be, and Esbjerg.

They come with outstanding aftershave products (the balms are en par with Baume.be, ie outstanding), and also shower and hand soaps. Overall, nice stuff.

The price has been discussed often, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, you get what you pay for. The ever-popular "artisan" products out of Phoenix use the cheapest of the cheap ingredients (including those unspeakable bouquets straight out of Taobao), and are therefore much more expensive by comparison. And that is not mentioning their ridiculously low efficiency. Meißner Tremonia (and Esbjerg) use food grade ingredients, and those come at a price. On the up side, they have been tested extensively, and you can buy with confidence with regards to allergies.

Where was I? Ah, yes, the overall verdict: Get some samples, pick a scent you like, buy the product. You will not regret it.

    Robin, my friend,

Good review on Meissner Tremonia. I've tried to like these soaps, but as I have said many times, the ones with fragrance fry my skin. Something in the blends, obviously, does not agree with me. I must say, the soaps all lather well.

The Puristic Style and the Pots of Milk are in the shave den now. I've tried each couple times. The Puristic gave me a wee bit of a burn and left my face slightly irritated. The Pots of Milk not as much. Still, I'll need a few more lathers to make a final conclusion whether or not they work with me.

After all, my friend, I respect your opinion.

    Dear Obie,

Thank you kindly. As stated previously, I am shocked! that these soaps would not work for you. EU consumer protection regulations can be a bit of a bore, but when it comes to soaps (but not, incidentally, perfumes, where US regulations are superior for whichever reason), they work very well. Which means that there really should not be any of the irritation that you describe. Or, if so, you should die a painful death when testing many other soaps that are made from God knows what. Consider me confused :/

Either way, thank you for your feedback. I think we cannot stress one point enough: There is no best soap. These products are highly personal, and objective performance features aside, there is no way of predicting how one product will work for anybody else.

    Thank you, my friend!
    Robin

    Robin,

Right you are: there are no such things as the best soap and the cream. There is only quality — to various degrees.

Obie! You mean all those reviews of artisan soaps aren't... aren't right?

    Cheers, Steve
