My Experience with Baume.be
In the last couple of years, there has been quite a bit going on in the soap world. There are some great new soaps out there that have changed everything for me.
I have discovered that there is a lot more to a soap than “mere” scent, bubbles and a bit of glide. A good soap can do all that, plus make your face feel fantastic, hydrated, and according to my wife, make you look younger.
So why would I go “backwards” and get excited about an “old” cream that I’ve never looked at, even sideways in the past?
Well, besides Straight Razor Magazine’s glowing review < Straight Razor Magazine: Baume.be Shaving Cream & Aftershave Balm > and countless other good reviews via members here on the forums, it was Obie’s interpritation as to how the cream made his skin feel that pushed me over the edge.
And that’s the thing, I’ve always been a scent whore. It’s always been a primary concern for me, but now that I know what a great cream/soap can make your face feel like, scent has become secondary... entirely secondary!
Which is a good thing because no one has ever said this stuff smells good lol!
Honestly, the scent is not bad. It’s not a soapy smell, not a winter or a summer scent. I don’t know how to describe it, but I’m ok with it. I got the Fine L'Orange Noir splash to use post shave, pre balm, and it seems like the perfect compliment.
Anyway, I haven’t shaved with it yet. That’s coming in an hour or so. I intend to use it all week and reviewing it as I go. Please feel free to add any good or bad - I’d love to hear it. I’ll update as I go.Last edited by earcutter; 09-01-2018 at 03:33 PM.

UPDATE # 1
What a lather! It’s just like AdP, very little is needed. It just eats water. You couldn’t make this runny if you tried - if all you did was face lather. I stated in my AdP review, that that cream would go twice as far as the equivalent amount of Art of Shaving (AoS) cream, this cream will as well. It exploded on my Simpson Comidor.
I was hoping to see a yellow pillow of cream on my face, being that that is the color in the glass tub it comes in, but as soon as you lather, it turns white.
The scent for me was less pleasant upon mixing, but I guess that doesn’t matter because it quickly became, well, scentless. That was odd, but ok. As I said though, I’ve always been a scent whore so I missed that aspect, but I was looking for feel.
And that’s where it gets interesting - the “feel.” It feels - light. I don’t know how to describe it. It hangs out on top of the pores where my other soap dig into them. It’s light. But that’s not to say it didn’t have viscosity.
I have to be careful here talking about viscosity because I fed this stuff a ton of water to see how much it could eat. I was at the edge. But today... today I’d say that it was equal(ish) to AoS, but no where near AdP.
When I was done, I ran my alum block over my face, there was no burn. So it worked! Then a little cold water, threw on that Fine aftershave, waited a bit and used the creams matching balm.
I didn’t get as close a shave as with my AdC, but I can’t stop thinking about how “light” a cream this is. It’s just not “in your face,” literally as most others are. Moreover, my face feels great. Smooth and hydrated. It’s unique. For me.
I’ll be shaving with it all week. We’ll see how I fair. The no scent is killing me, but I’m loving on the “light.”Last edited by earcutter; 09-01-2018 at 05:44 PM.

I’ve always been a scent whore.Yep, me too, to the point of putting drops of various EO's on soap pucks that are relatively scent-free (but otherwise great performers-I'm looking at you, MWF)! Thanks for the review, David.

Baum has been discussed at length. It's a top performing product however as I've said many times the scent is at best pedestrian. It's pleasant enough but simply doesn't match it's performance. To me that's what takes it out of top tier. In my rating system in order to be top tier the scent has to match the performance.

For me scent is not that important, it's performance is so good I don't seem to mind at all. We all have our own factors we judge a cream and soap by, mine are purely utilitarian and performance based.
It has a light, not strong, scent which I actually do like, it smells "clean" or I at least convince myself I smell clean for once
Variety is the spice of life n'at, with that said though I have been using Baume.be cream almost exclusively. But that's more because, I gotta first use and finish what I have lying around before buying anything new.
Even then Baume will always be in my cabinet. I rotate between my only soaps and creams I have: Klar Kabinett bar (which is probably a decade old), Cella and Baume.be (not a bad choice by any means). Unfortunately seeing my stock in these soaps and creams I won't be buying anything new for almost a decade (So,I might need to re-think my strategy as it seems to be flawed)
AoS Sandalwood is still my favorite scent to date, given I haven't used it in almost a decade as I cannot seem to source it locally anywhere
When all is said and done, Baume.be for me is a fun and pleasant soap to use, the scent could be stronger, but I don't seem to mind whilst plowing the whiskers off covered in it, the shaves itself and the skin feel afterwards is very very good. Makes me feel like a million bucks, which is probably 999.999 more than what I'm worth.
If you like a strong scented cream, this indeed won't satisfy your needs in that regard.

Thanked: 556I have the Baume .be and really enjoy the shave it provides. The scent is not unpleasant.
I also purchased PannaCrema Nuavia Nera Shaving Soap. It is expensive, but as much as I use it, the container does not seem to empty and it produces a lot of superb lather even when face lathering. I love the scent which seems to last long after the shave and the feeling it leaves on my skin is wonderful. IMO well worth the price.
If I only had these two soaps, I’d be happy.Last edited by DZEC; 09-02-2018 at 10:56 AM.

For the price it is an excellent cream.
What impresses me most about Baume is the heavy glass tub it comes in.. quality
I'm a packaging whore
