Thanked: 9I really enjoy some Vetiver fragrances and dislike others. The freshness of Creed Original Vetiver is sublime in the Spring-Fall and the deeper Vetiver from Queen Charlotte Soaps (defunct) is great when it's cold outside. I wasn't a fan of the Cyril Salter, it was way too earthy.

I have been using Mystic Water Vetiver/Oakmoss for quite some time in regular rotation as it is a fantastic scent and possibly the best I have tried regarding Vetiver scents, but this very subjective.
If Vetiver is done well, then it can be quite addictive.Laughter, Love, & Shaving

I got a tub of that Stirling Port au Prince a few years ago, and it became one of my all-time favorites. I should get some more, in fact. I'm a huge vetiver and patchouli fan. In fact, funny you guys mentioned the Fine aftershaves. I just ordered both the Fine Vetiver A-S styles from Maggards to take advantage of their current sale-I got out under $50 with free shipping, not bad! I also got a bunch of new sample soaps in the order, a number of them containing vetiver and/or patchouli.
A few Wholly Kaws I haven't tried, all the StoryBooks (hey, I teach English, and I was intrigued by the descriptions and the beef tallow base), a few Noble Otters and Through the Fires also made it into the cart. Sadly, they seemed to be mostly out of the OleoSoapworks scents I wanted (which I still haven't tried any of, somehow). I can't wait to try them out-I may report on a few if time allows, though things are getting hairy in my AP class as exams loom.

Not a soap but Royall makes an industrial strength Vetiver as an aftershave. Good stuff.

Thanked: 292I found a web site that described Vetiver as "The fragrance of the soil". Since Vetiver is a type of grass, and the oil comes from the roots, that is probably an accurate description. The Stirling soap also contains lemongrass, another grass. Thus, it is not surprising that the scent smells like dirt.
I have Ariana and Evans Vetiver Magnifique and Cold River Soap Works Vetiver Fresco. I like both scents, but they are more complex scents that feature a lot of other scent notes in addition to Vetiver.

I find vetiver a bit too 'earthy' and have given away aftershave, shave cream and beard oil. Strangely, my absolute favourite shave cream is Meissner Tremonia Strong n Scottish which is very 'Peaty'. Some may find these scents similar but to me, they are poles apart. I'm also a sucker for all things patchouli.
