Like Jerry, the most I have personally spent was on MDC. And I've given away more of it than I've used-after all, I only discovered it myself due to the generosity of others on this board. It's a great soap, but I've loved $5 tubes of Godrej with lanolin about as much. But then, you can't really go by me-I still like Edge gel!

I guess most of the soaps I splurge on fall into the Wholly Kaw/Noble Otter artisan level somewhere in the mid $20's for a tub. Both of those are as good as anything I've used. Enjoy what you like and can justify price-wise, whether it's an Arko stick or XPec.

There is a natural hot springs in Oregon, in the middle of the woods, about 45" from where I live. Sitting in that hot springs on a starry night with someone you love, with the majestic woods all around you, is pure luxury. The only cost is the cost for gas, unless you want to put a few bucks in the tin to contribute to the upkeep. Sometimes just the right combination of soap and steel come together and it's also pure luxury, and it leaves me feeling like I'm going to have a good day. It could be one of my least expensive soaps and an old razor someone gifted to me. I could spend a ton of money going to an expensive spa and sit in their hot tub, but it wouldn't be nearly as luxurious as sitting in the natural hot springs in the woods for free. The most expensive soap I ever purchased was the first one I bought after discovering shaving forums, as it was so different from what I'd been using for nearly fifty years, and it lead me down that damn rabbit hole.

My only soap is Mystic Water, which is $11.32 USD per puck, so I don't know if that constitutes a luxury shaving soap for the price. However, it surely does feel luxurious with its excellent lather and post-shave.

I've always felt that true luxury should come from items that are rare or difficult to work with, yet still perform better than competitors.

As far as soaps go, I don't really see people throwing some unicorn anal gland secretions, lignum vitae shavings or what-have-you in to soaps. So, I don't believe any manufactures are truly luxury, just throwing that word around to justify the prices for their labels.

My priciest/cheapest I know of are arko and MdC. MdC gets my money simply because it performs well, lasts forever and most importantly is consistent with with the wacky water of Waukesha.

IMO, Luxurious is just that. Easy and rewarding. Trumpers Limes, MDC. So many. Arko is Lux!

Like most of you it is MdC and Arko.

I have not purchased a "new" soap in a long time. Just buy the ones I like with a different scent. Just ordered MdC in Citrus, Vetiver and Rose. A lifetime supply!

I occasionally try a new soap but have never tried a "luxury" soap (one that is ridiculously expensive) I get a great shave from williams I like wilkinsons which no one ever seems to talk about because it feels cooling on my face. Its about 2X the price of Williams 4$ instead of 2$, is that luxury?

Careful, Alan-MDC is one of the more expensive SAD's to come down with. There are guys on this forum who have all 7 flavors, and they run about $75 a tub. Maggards carries it in the US, not sure about where your fellow Canucks get it. I do love my 1 precious tub of Vetyver-I may get the samples of that citrus and rose from Maggard's, Dave-enjoy!
