    Default Alum Block Anyone?

Just curious on how to use it and what does it exactly do? Moisturize or not? Also, do you need to use an aftershave or moisturizer after?

Judging by the post it seems worth buying.

    Thanks

    Aaron

    What post?

Its used by wetting and rubbing directly on the face.

It is bracing and it closes pores, stops bleeding, and tightens the skin.

It doesn't moisturize, or have a scent. If you want scent or moisture you must use such afterwards.

I use my block daily and find that my face is in better condition for it.

I got a bunch of them from Tulumba for $1.99 each, they work great, I gave one to my teenager to help clear up his face! seems to be working.

I also bought a jar of Alum at the food store, i'm going ot attempt to grow my own crystals for the fun of it.

Some guys like to rub it on the wet face, wait a few minutes and then rinse it off. The salts can become irritating to some. I like to use it sometimes. Use to use it everyday - now just occasionally. Really cheap at Indian (India) Grocery stores.
Makes decent deodorant under the arms, too.

i've not been as gung-ho on the alum as others are. i have it so i use it, but i find it's effect negligible. I also feel the same way about witch hazel. Personally, i'd be just as happy splashing my face with cold water and apply AS

For sensitive skin types it can be more than bracing if you've had a harsh shave. I use it to close pores (much less in-grown hair trouble) and as a weather-vane on which parts of my face I've been a little too heavy on (the parts that sting!). I know when I've had a perfect shave when the alum doesn't sting at all.

If you do use it, you should wash it off before you apply any blams or creams since it seems to denaturise them (from gloopy to incredibly runny).

Yuppers...wet, apply, wait until dry then rinse.

It also works well to let you know if your technique is on spot... if you've overdone it, the alum will let you know!!

I use it daily. Rubbed around my wet face after the cold water rinse. Just before it dries I apply liquid aftershave. The aftershave gets rid of what would otherwise leave a chalky film on your face.
    Good Luck!

I was using every day as part of a regimen. As time progressed, I used it less and less. I do use it when I feel a little razor burn or if a get a little weeper. I apply it to a wet face let it dry and rinse it off. Its a good product to have on hand.

I used one when I first started straight razor shaving a few months back and ended up nearly jumping back in the bath.

Tried it again today no problem what so ever, so must be getting better
