    Default More new aftershave experiments

Okay, undaunted by the overly flowery bout with the Pinaud's Vegital lilac and the Special Reserve I decided to become a guinea pig again for the good of the group and try some new aftershaves.

Along with my strop order from Bowmans Beauty I tried a few of their aftershaves. They have a Lustray Spice which is pretty much like Old Spice. Nice fragrance and wearable all day unlike the Vegital <g>. They have another called Osage Rub which for al intents smells like a cross between Scope mouthwsh and menthol cough drops. Goes on better than it smells in the bottle and quickly mellows down. Third one is smething called Tiger Tonic and the jury is still out on that one. A little more feminine smelling I think. Now remember, these are not top shelf pretty boy aftershaves. This is bargain priced, grumpy old man barbershop stuff. None were over $5 for a large 16oz bottle.

    Hey Tony,
Have you tried Pinaud's Vanilla? It's good stuff.

    Parry,
I wanted to try that but my local source does not sell it. I will check Norva Barber Supply, nice dealer and they carry some Pinaud's stuff.

Is the Pinaud Vanilla mellower than the Origian Pinaud Clubman after shave? I love the smell of the original, but I get a headache after a while of wearing it. (No, I don't use THAT much.)

I use Pinaud Vanilla and I can hardly smell the vanilla, but my wife can. Personally I like the Pinaud Clubman Original more.

I wore the Lustray Spice all day today and really enjoyed it. Nice spicey scent and not overwhelming as the Clubman can sometimes be.

Tomorrow belongs to the Osage Rub. The bottle describes it as a tonic for hair or face. I'll stick to the face only.

It's fun doing an online search for barber supply houses. They often sell shaving supplies along with tonics and aftershaves. I found mugs, soaps, razors, etc.... at almost everyone I encountered in my search and most af far less expensive than the usual razor outlets we are familiar with. Got both my Illimnois strops for no more than $30 each.

This morning I tried the "Osage Rub" I got from Bowman Beauty Supply ($5.00 for 16oz). WOW! What a unique sensory experience. This stuff goes on warm, then quickly goes into an icey, tingly state that continues to "work" for about 10 minutes when it finally smooths out then become warm feeling again. It does not leave much scent and almost no burn like you get with most aftershaves. It does have a menthol base which is probably what gives the long lasting icey feel. really unique stuff.

Bottle say Invigorating Splash......they are not kidding! Going to be a new favorite.

Today's aftershave installment continunes with Sandahl's Lucky Tiger. Another not so common find that has a very pleasing scent. Masculine for sure but with a little more "perfumey" aftertone that wives and girlfriends might like better than some of the Pinaud's stuff. Gives that good sting one is used to, unlike the cool effect of yesterdays Osage Rub.

All of these barber supply house aftershaves have come in plastic bottles that look very much like old time barber bottles. Might have to do a little more searching for new flavors. I was surprised just how many of this type of product is out there. Fun trying the more vintage style products. Somehow the new, department store, pretty boy aftershaves have no appeal to me.
