See, I just couldn't bring myself to use something in which I had such a love/hate relationship with. I wish I could!

Sorry, Ron, I had to let my wife win one! The slivers of Tabac I shaved off your puck at the meet took a bullet for me and went in the trash. If she wouldn't have been home at the time, I would have definitely ran downstairs and gave it a lather. So close yet so far.

Although I agreed with her that it reminded me also of lysol and hair spray, I didn't think it was so horribly offensive that I wouldn't have tried a shave or two.

There was one soap that I didn't even give a chance, it was a cake of Van Der Hagen something or other in which the cheap cologne smell was so strong I could taste it for about an hour after smelling it. I chucked it. I just couldn't do it.

    Chris,

Have you tried the Marvy soap (vanilla-almond) yet? I can't imagine your wife not liking the fragrance of that soap as it is much, much different than the Tabac's Lysol-Aquanet-Right Guard-Old Spice-like aroma. It's a good thing Utopian likes it, as with his ability to stretch soap, the Urn of Tabac should last about 14.2 years.

Based on everyone's recommendations, I picked up some of the Castle Forbes Lavender. It truly is exceptional. I could not believe how much lather it makes, and how easily. I put a dab in my mug, about the same size as I've been using with other creams for one shave, and so far that little bit of Castle Forbes has lasted through three days of shaves. It smells very nice too.

I have also been using the Leatherneck shaving cream from the Gentlemen's Quarter. While it does not make as much or as nice lather as the Castle Forbes, it smells great!

I just saw your post tonight, Bruce. I have not tried the Marvy soap yet, but I certainly will; although, just today I received my sampler platter of soaps and creams from TGQ and I wish my whiskers would grow an inch an hour so I can shave and try them all NOW!

I like the smell of almond. My wife doesn't oddly enough. She does like the smell of TGQ Leatherneck though.

    My favorite is Honeybee Soap
Truly outstanding soap, and the scents are amazing. My test of a shave soap is how my face feels afterward, and Honeybee gets top honors in that field. Also, it is very reasonably priced.
