    Default Soap ?

I use a cheap soap bought at my base exchange. It dries quickly on my face. Is there any that the more experienced here would recommend? I'm sure there is.

Inexpensive doesn't automatically mean cheap or bad. What kind of soap?

I just finished a puck of Col Conk amber shave soap and was happy with it. The lather held up while I stropped my razor and through the shave. It has a nice scent without being to strong and the soap felt good on the face. It seems to be one of the more inexpensive soaps out there. I consider it good value for the money. Folks on this site speak highly of Coleen's soaps from thegentlemensquarter.com. I I just received my order today and look forward to checking them out.

If you bought it on the base, it's probably "Williams" That's the brand stocked by most larger stores, i.e. Walmart, Target, Supermarkets. There's a ton of shaving soaps on the market. I've been using a brush and mug for years now. Vintage blades [url=http://www.vintagebladesllc.com has their own brand, "Triple-Milled Shaving Soap in a Wooden Bowl - 3.5 oz./100g. - Vintage Blades Brand. This stuff is great. Very little on your brush goes a long way, after your first pass, just put a few drops of water on your brush and your good to go again. The triple milled stuff is the best. I've tried home made goat's milk stuff, that didn't last to long. I do like Castle Forbes and Tabac. They're a little expensive but are great performers. When you think about how long they last, the cost is not that bad. I haven't tried Collen's soap. www.thegentlemensquarter.com or "nancy boy" yes, nancy boy, but I hear they're great. I have some Col.Conk that I haven't tried yet.

Try adding a little more water the next time you lather up. If it don't help, Collen at TGQ has a sampler pack for $16. Her soaps are worth a try, I find they lather up easy, her cream are a little more selective on water/cream ratio, but it's worth the effort.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I watched the lathering video on here and adjusted my technique. I worked up a fierce lather this morn and the shave was good. The soap I use comes in a green and white box and is sold at Walmart and other stores. It is the same company that made my badger brush.

    This stuff?

It's not the best soap out there but better than a needle in your eye. You'll find that most other shave soaps you try in the future work better than this one, unfortunately it is very easy to find. This is just a testament to how much the goo in a can owns the shaving isle, they even make the stores carry the worst of the cheap soaps.

It is an improvement over the caned junk though. Keep working with it and don't get discouraged, just know that it can be much much better still.

I like Tabac and Mama Bear's Bay Rum a lot. I still use Williams more than all the others put together. Long familiarity and I like the scent.
