Its quite adequate, does a very good job for a very basic soap.

Thanked: 13245I believe Nostalgic is the correct word for Williams...
I use it about once a month in the scuttle that my Pops once used.. That and Old Spice were the only two shaving soaps he ever used...Last edited by gssixgun; 12-23-2008 at 09:24 PM.

in the sub 2.00 locally available soap department, VanDerHagen Deluxe from Walmart has my money every time!

This is what I'm currently using as well. High quality shaves. Average quality scent. Shaving quality should always win out I say! Cost is reasonable. Over 4 years and 2 months you'd save enough to buy a new razor . . . that works for me.

Thanked: 5I've used Williams for about 30 years and have always been happy with the stuff. I have written elsewhere that it exponentially increases the life of my blades, produces a much closer shave and is much less expensive and lasts longer than a can of off the shelf shave cream.
I am now trying Tabac after looking at another thread here. Have not been using it a week so is hard to make a comparison at this point but the lather does appear to be thicker, longer lasting, more moisturizing and lubricating, but I don't think that makes Williams a bad product. Not sure at this point I could say that the price difference (~$1.50 vs. ~$10.00) would make me recommend throwing away the Williams and switching to a premium. If one is looking for the ultimate I would say go for it, but if one is content going to the drug store I think Williams is a good value. The one drawback might be that a cake of Williams lasts me about two months whereas they say a cake of Tabac lasts almost forever. If I find that to be the case then I would say Tabac would be a better value.

Absolutely great soap as long as you add a little glycerin to it - it holds much longer, doesn't dry out as much, and has a great old-barber's scent. I, like Glen, get to it about once a month (I now rotate through around 9 soaps...SAD much?) and think that it's just great value for money and a great way to get into wet shaving.
