Why does Mama Bear have two domain names? Something wrong.
I'm probably over reaching here, but check this out:
WhoIs Search Results
WhoIs Search Results
The first site, bear-haven.com is registered by Susan Clark out of Illinois.
The second site, mamabearsoaps.com is registered by "mama bear soaps" out of Wisconsin. What's the deal with that? Why aren't both sites registered under Susan's name at the same address? Did she move or is something odd going on? What's the point of having two domain names?
Again, probably me being paranoid, but just thought I'd ask.

Thanked: 953I'm not in the know on MB but I think I did read that she moved. And I think she moved from one side of the border to the other, and has been working on a new site.

I know her entire website got a recent overhaul as it was completely re-done. Maybe the two different domains came from the work that was involved with that. Nothing to worry about I don't think, she sells my favorite soaps and the scents are awesome

Thanked: 20About the time I moved from Northern IL to Northern WI, my website bear-haven.com stopped letting me create any updates. It still worked, but I couldn't make any changes to it without crashing the whole thing.
It took me 6 months to get the new one up and I used mamabearssoaps.com url to create the new site with so the old site was at least there and functioning during this period and so I wasn't out of business during that time. At the same time I also incorporated Mama Bears Soaps LLC in the State of WI as someone had already incorporated the name Bear Haven here in WI even tho I had it in IL, I had to change my business name too ..... it was one hell of a move and I am never doing it again... ;-)
Once I put mamabearssoaps up live I just forwarded one domain to the other.. they are exactly the same, being mirrored. My webmaster told me I didn't want to lose the old one, even tho the new one was my dream site.
I hope this makes sense to you, it didn't make a lot of sense to me at the time. If it is a problem for anyone I can get rid of one of the urls but not sure what the problem is JCW122..... if you let me know I will try and make it better for you.

You new site is great! Most companies have several if not hundreds of domains pointing to the same sites. This is the normal practice.
I would make sure to update the address associated with you old address however. As this is required to be accurate. You are at risk of loosing the old domain. I say this nd of course none of mine ar accurate and have been this way for years. It;s the rules but no one really polices them.
No worries. Your doing fine.

Looks perfectly normal to me. I own at least a dozen names all related to my strops, brand names, related businesses , etc....
Whether used or not it is normal to register names to protect ones interests and possible future related activities.
The only requirement, as already mentioned in keeping the owners address accurate.

Thanked: 0yep, i just wish i was able to get the domain name i wanted for my company, some guy in the UK has the domain i want and it has been dormant for years, no response when i emailed him to see if he would sell it.
and of course al he similar site names are either takes, i dont want, or my brother who does web design suggests not to use them due to the way the address is since people will mess them up or forget things like "-" or ".org"/ ".us" vs ".com" etc or they are very close to other sites
o well

I can vouch for Sue (Mama Bear)!
I remember her talking on this board in either late 2007 or early 2008 about wanting to move. (I've been away for almost a year.)
Luv ya, Sue!!! Hope you love your new home.
