Thanked: 3COL. CONK?
Still pretty new at straight razor shaving .
Learned alot here .
Switched from the can shave cream to the brush and soap.
Only soap I've used is the COL. CONK's .
I never see it recommended when one of us newbe's ask what is the best shaving soap.
So I was wondering where COL. CONKS rates .
Is it good or bad?
Or just good enogh to make it better than the canned goo?

Willy, I asked the same question in the best soap thread awhile ago. I was surprised to learn that some people like it and use it regularly. I also learned that the Amber is their favorite. Nobody mentioned whether they did not like the performance of the other soaps or just the scent. I can now get extraordinary lather using this soap. The more I read this forum, the more I realize that soap selection, and other shaving related things, are a matter of personal choice. I would recommend to try other soaps, creams and combination of them...

Thanked: 3I have not used the Col. Conk soaps but I do have one of the brushes and so far I am very happy with it so I would say that he makes solid products. As far as good and bad soaps it really does vary from one person to another. I have used a few different brands of soaps and so far my favorites are Mama Bear soaps, I now have 6 of those. Her scents are great ant they make a fine lather as well. Best advice I can give is try to find samples around the net and try to stay away from the AD's, those can start to fill your bathroom and empty your wallet quick

I'm just finishing up a cake of Col. Conk's Bay Rum. It's not a bad soap, there are others I prefer and still more I wish to try. GFT Sandalwood is my favorite so far, but I want to try Mitchell's Wool Fat, DR Harris, and Tabac. Oh, and of course, Castle Forbes.
It really is a personal thing. Some folks swear by Williams, some by Castle Forbes, and we all swear at the canned goo.

Col Conk is too much like Col Klink and I just can’t shave with visions of bespectacled Germans floating around in my brain, so I just don’t touch the stuff. This, of course, makes the floccinaucinihilpilification of my opinion a most natural conclusion.
Of course, “YMMV”.
