Thanked: 1195Agreed. This city doesn't have much in the way of luxury shaving products. The Net is your best bet.

They have a Tabac cream in a tube now, which I like, and the soap as well.

www.fragrancex.com. When they have it in stock, it's the cheapest around, and if you put in the code "free" on checkout, you get free worldwide shipping.

Thanked: 5Have mine
Hi
I have lost faith in the Tabac soap for my straight, I just cant get it to perform compared to Proraso, Palmolive etc. Maybe is me, but it seems to dry out quite quickly and I struggle to get a decent lather, adding just one small drop too much water seems to make everything dissappear. If you lived locally you could have mine.
Regards
London

Tabac lather is a strange beast, especially if you're using it with hard water. To me, it doesn't really form what I would think of as a traditional lather. It just looks and feels *different*. I think alot of guys make it too weak thinking that it should be a light, fluffy cream. Personally, I mix mine thick and dry, as adding it to a wet face puts in just the right amount of water to really get great lubrication. "Thick and dry" makes for an odd feeling lather, but the results are great. Add a couple drops of glycerin to help with the dryness (it also makes the lather last longer), and it'll also help develop the lather better.
With alot of creams/soaps, I go by how the cream looks and feels in the lather bowl to determine if I've made it right. With Tabac, I go by how it feels during the shave, because it usually looks alot different in the bowl than what I'd consider a proper soap or cream should look/feel.
A couple drops of glycerin in the lather bowl, and making the lather according to the good Kaptain's soap lathering guide, should give you fantastic results with Tabac, although it's still up to you to get past the scent. yuck.
Here's a link to fragranceX's tabac page. They still are offering free worldwide shipping, although they have boosted the prices on their Tabac products a bit.Tabac Cologne for Men by Maurer & Wirtz I'd rather pay the small shipping fee and give the business to SRD, but that's just me.

Thanked: 74There are some drug stores that are now starting to carry the Proraso line. I noticed aerosol cans of foam, tubes of cream, and maybe pre/post at the Bonnie Doon Shoppers Drug Mart on Tuesday night. Quite reasonably priced too.
