Thanked: 6Shave Den soaps?
How do you all feel about the shave den's soaps? I just ordered a couple samples and haven't had great luck with them. Whatever I try it seems like I just can't get a decent lather out of it. I can literally feel it evaporating on my face almost immediately. I've tried going at it with a dry brush and adding water slowly, I've tried a slightly more wet brush, I've tried face lathering, I've tried bowl lathering.... It just doesn't want to cooperate. Is this common with these soaps or is it just my technique? I haven't had a problem with any other soaps yet...
Thanks in advance!

Don't use them. I use Colleen's sopas exclusively. You can find her in the Vendor's Corner forum. They are the best for scent and performance!

Thanked: 953I haven't tried them - some rave about them, some really don't.
Of the similar artisan soap makers (Mama Bear, QED, SCS and TGQ, and Mike Ratliff's soap), I've tried Mama Bear, QED and TGQ and all are outstanding. TGQ's sents are bit strong for me so far (I've only tried one sample) but the performance is great. I love Mama Bear Rosemary Mint, and I love QED Wild Orance and Fresh Limes. So much to choose from.

Thanked: 74I just got some samples from them as well. I have given up on making good lather with the cream. I haven't gotten to the soap yet. I do like the scents tho.

Thanked: 6haha, wow. Well I'm happy it's not just me. I spent a good amount of time with them again last night, and still couldn't come up with anything worth writing home about. Maybe they will be good in an oil warmer as an air freshener. They do smell quite nice.
Thanks for the fast feedback all!

Why don't you try using them with the Uberlather forumla, try a squirt of Kiss my face shave cream, some glycerin, mix it up with a good badger brush. At least they won't go to waste, or you could send them to me, I'll take them off your hands...
I find a good badger brush makes all the diff. They really help you whip up the lather. I got the samples from the Shave Den, but I got the Name brand Samples, like Nancy Boy, Truefitt and Hill, TOBS, etc...I did get their signature shave cream, TSD. It worked fine for me and I like the scent. Now, I've tried probably every soap, cream out there, ask my girlfriend....I've taken over the bathroom. Everyone seems to rave about Colleen's soaps, other than the fact that they're inexpensive, I don't really see what the big deal is. Maybe I'm missing something. Her fragrance blends are good, but they behave as soap. I don't see how their any different from other soaps. I only got her samples, I've heard you have to get the whole puck. She said that the smaller samples don't perform as well as the larger pucks. Since I love to buy stuff, maybe I'll give them a second look....Last edited by zib; 02-11-2009 at 08:20 PM.

Thanked: 6Good call. They will exclusively become soaps to be mixed with others. I need to pick up some of that KMF unscented cream. I keep hearing about how it saves even the worst predicaments.

It really does, that and pick up a small bottle of Glycerin, 4oz available on Amazon. Put four or five drops in with a squirt of KMF, also available on Amazon. I whipped up some TSD sig shave cream last night, I had a small amount left. I used a silver tip badger and that bowl that Don and Lynn sell on their site, I had a huge bowl of something that resembled whip cream.
It takes a little patience and practice, you need to really whip it up. You efforts will be rewarded. Also, check out Mama Bear Soaps, She has a huge selection and I hear good things about them....Rich
