I have great success with Tabac. The smell is a bit detergenty but the shave is second to none IMHO. I like Mitchell’s Wool Fat, though a lot of people have a hard time getting a good lather on it. If you have hard water it’s an uphill battle. MWF gives a great shave if you get that good lather. Scent is akin to Ivory soap. Or lamb’s armpits, depending on who is giving the opinion.

I like MWF because to me it has almost no aroma. I use it with a dab of Salter's cream. Various scents and the soap having no scent doesn't conflict with or overpower the cream. I also like Tabac, QED and TGQ in various flavors.

Of the triple milled DR Harris Arlington and Trumper's Almond are the only ones I have. They are good and I can use them with my cream as the scent is subtle, to my nose anyhow. The glycerin stuff from QED is heavily scented but I like the way it lathers. I don't find the TGQ as heavy and I love the lather. Same with Tabac.

That is all I have. I spent all the rest of my money on razors and hones.

Floris and Tabac are outstanding as are:

    Penhaligons
    AOS
    DR Harris
    Trumper
    MWF

Someone tell me if I'm missing something.

    greetings,
i have only used one soap: non triple milled classic shaving brand since 2007. mostly with a vision safety razor but now with a straight beginning this year. I just buy a whole bunch at a time; lavender, almond, bay rum and violet. my favorite is almond.

tonight i tried a triple mill D.R. Harris almond. Holy $%#^ difference batman! it usually takes like 20 twirls of the brush to start getting suds from the classic but only 3 twirls and the lather started building immediately with the D.R. much thicker, and after about 30 twirls it was ready. with the non milled i would spend like a minute whipping the brush like if i was making an omelette.

You use so much less product and in this case the lather was super rich and covered the face better than ever. Wow

I have 2 pucks of bay rum and one of almond non milled. I hope they are good for showering because after using this triple mill i'll never go back to non milled again.
    regards, m.a.d.

There tends to be more in favour of 3x milled soaps..honestly I havent noticed much of a difference but it might be my technique that needs improvement

Not to muddy the water any further, but I thought milled soaps were made from less "chemical" or more organic ingredients. I may be very wrong though.

What I have found in my time as a latherer is that milled soaps (I use GFT for preference) create denser creamier lather with much less brush & bowl effort. The lather does not dry & flake off any thing like as quickly. I have found that MWF works very well if the puck is allowed to soak in warm water for at least 20 min before lathering.

    Hope this helps.
