Thanked: 735TABAC is King!
OK, so I'd been screwing around with some different soaps, creams etc lately. Good stuff, as well as super cheap stuff.
Tonight I went back to Tabac for the first time in quite a while......awesome!
There are many products out there that provide alot of "slip" for your razor, but they severely lack any cushion. That is where I feel Tabac shines....smooth cutting, glide and cushion.
I guess I'm just thankful that I'm one of those who enjoys the sweaty disco scent of Tabac, because I sure would hate to noy use this wonderful stuff!
Any recommendations out there for soaps (or creams for that matter) that provide a similar level of cushion and glide as Tabac?

Right on! I love Tabac! I'm sometimes tempted to start hoarding it in case it's discountinued or reformulated - even though I have no reason to think that we will happen...
There are other good soaps, but I can't say anything is better.

You know, the scent, for me, is IDENTICAL to the old Old Spice aftershave my dad used when I was a kid. Seriously, when I use Tabac it's like taking a trip back in time...crazy kinds of nostalgia.
As for other soaps, I would say that MWF gives me a similar level of glide, and just as much (if not more) cushion--with added skin care benefits. Some people find the lather finicky, though...I didn't, but some do. Valobra and Cella soft soaps also...
As for creams? T&H pops into mind, as does The Body Shop's cream and of course TOBS. J.M. Fraser's is close, though not quite as cushioney, and the water ration can be finnicky (review coming soon...)
Frankly, any top-shelf soap should give that kind of performance. Tabac is perhaps easier to lather than some, and it is widely/cheaply available, but I wouldn't say it's markedly better than the other premium products I've used.
Small, cottage industry products are another story...

Thanked: 55AOS soap and Harris old formula. Both are truly excellent, though I favor the AOS most.

+1 on your comments about Tabac but I REALLY hate the smell so when I use it I normally mix it with my favorite cream (Proraso...which is the slipperiest stuff I've used) to make a reasonable smelling uberlather. Their individual charateristics complement each other extremely well.

I wonder if I still have any Tabac soap... it is a great performer
with an interesting scent. I do particularly like the soap dish
and aftershave containers.

It took a couple of uses for me to get used to the scent, but now I love it! I have 2 pucks of soap, cream, and aftershave. Mmmm Mmmm good! One of the great things about the soap is that it lasts forever. The current puck I am using I've had for over a year. Now, I don't use it every day, but it never seems to look used.
Hoard, indeed!
