Thanked: 13245Yes it is...
They really don't compare to each other, both are shaving soaps that is about it...
The Classic is a true 6 on a 1-10 scale and is also a Glycerin style... with some pretty strong scents in them...
The MWF is a 9/10 all day long, I haven't ever used a 10 if MWF was less $$$ it would be a 10
and is a hard milled soap, with a very gentle subtle clean scent...

You see this guy above me? He's my kind of guy.
And as for the price, well, with exchange rates being what they are right now, it's actually pretty cheap if you buy from the UK. Paul at connaught shaving has some great prices, and only charges real shipping so you can get a puck for about $12, shipped. Hard to beat...

Thanked: 953MWF is a totally different animal than the classic soaps, and MWF is much better too.
MWF is tallow and lanolin. You get a thick, creamy, slick protective lather and close shave.
Classic is glycerine and clay. You get a thin, very very slick lather with so so protection and a close shave, but not as close as with MWF.
So they are different but MWF is also just better.

Thanked: 346Yes. The price difference isn't as big as it seems, since the MWF pucks are very large and are consumed much more slowly than the glycerine soaps. You could get over a year of shaves out of a MWF puck as long as you don't abuse it (soaking it during your shower, etc).
One thing to watch out for is the lanolin in the MWF. Some guys are sensitive to it. But there are a lot of guys that are sensitive to the clay in the Classic soap as well, and you seem to be doing ok with it. I used it when I first started with the DE and nearly quit because I couldn't stop the razor burn. Turned out it was a reaction to the Classic soap.Last edited by mparker762; 03-03-2009 at 05:55 PM.

Ah, the unanswerable question! I love them both, they are equally GOOD, in my humble opinion, but they are very different.
Tabac has more cushion, MWF has more glide. I'd say they both allow equal closeness and comfort.
MWF has a light scent, pleasant to me. Tabac has more scent...some hate it. I think it is OK.
Tabac has a nicer lather. MWF doesn't fluff up as nice, well, it does, but to get it to do so, you have to add too much water, and ruin the experience! Leaving it a little less fluffy is perfect for me.
They are the only two soaps I use at this time.

Thanked: 1262hmmm.. i will have to order a puck and try it out. Glad you said something abou tit not getting to thick unless you add to much water.
I tried shaving with some old conks/vdh combo i had... i ended up added some proraso cream to it because it sucked so much.
wow. the refill puck isnt bad at all. do i just shread this up and press it into a container like tabac?

If you are using one of the basic soaps like Williams or VDH or Burts Bees and then try the Classic it is a real upgrade and all in all its not a bad soap but once you go to the Wool Fat and the triple Milled English Soaps your in a different category altogether.

What, no WHY?
Why is everyone shredding pucks all the time? Poor little pucks never did no harm to no one...little fellers just want to help!
Here's how you treat a puck: Get a bowl. Put the soap in a bowl. Finished. If the fit isn't tight, give the soap puck a couple of swirls with your brush, turn it over and the pre-lather will "glue" the puck down.
It doesn't need to be any special bowl. Tupperware, anchor hocking, whatever fits.
