Try soaking the soap in the dish. It tends to drink more than other soaps, but it provides an incredibly satisfying lather.

I found the lather to be abundantly foamy, but weak and quick to dissappear. I liken it to the head of foam you get on a glass of Budweidser. I prefer a thick, creamy lather, more like the head of foam you get on a pint of Guinness.

The Willliams gave an OK shave, as far as being slippery, but did not provide me with any cushion, and thus the shave felt a bit too harsh.

I really wanted to love the Williams, I really, really did...

I too found it to make an excellent shower soap! Truly that tallowy goodness made my skin feel soft all over.

If you want to stick with the cheaper soaps then I'd highly recommend Proraso. It's not $0.79, but it isn't $35 in a fancy wooden bowl either. Some people don't like the smell or the menthol feeling of the green variety, but it's been very servicable for me.

I'll second this. $10 for a tube of CO Bigelow at any Bath and Body Works and I find it a thousand times better than Williams.

Williams is a soap that I keep around just because of the smell. It's a unique smell. And it performs well. I take it out every so often when I want that scent.

Big fan of Williams soap here. One of my favorites in a rotation that includes Tabac and Mitchell's. It just works well for me and the price can't be beat, plus it can be found locally which is amazing in it's own right.
