Thanked: 52trouble with Mama Bear and TGR
I have been using an uber lather with mama bears The Gentlemans refinery and 5 drops glycerin in a GP scuttle...
however i have been getting very thin and quick drying lather...do i just need more water...or could my scuttle be too hot...should i try cooler water in the scuttle...it just seems like i should be getting more lather than i am getting...
Or perhaps is the cream very low lathering...
Not sure...any suggestions...

Thanked: 13249I have never had much luck with ubering using Mamabear's soaps, There is a point were you can have to much glycerin and I remember way back when in a thread where Sue said something about her soaps having more than most... I would try without adding any extra glycerin and see if that helps...
Also there is a point where there can be to much heat, lather should be warm not hot...

Thanked: 155I would leave out the extra glycerin. Mama Bear's soaps already have a very high level of added glycerine (that's why they are so clear looking). Glycerin attracts water (that's good), but it does not lather so the more glycerin you have, the thinner the lather is likely to be. I am agnostic on the qualities of TGR creams, but you can certainly test them by seeing how much and what quality lather they make on their own. You can do the same with pure glycerin if you want.
I use Mama Bear's soaps alone, and I have found the secret to getting good lather with these high glycerin soaps is to make sure you have enough soap on the brush.

mamabears soaps are the best lathering i have ever used. all you need is some hot water and a decent brush i would not add anything else. i can swirl my brush about 10 times or so and have enough thick lather for all 3 passes here is a pic i just took after about 10-12 swirls with my brush. give it another try.
ane more thing i thought of do you have hard water?

Thanked: 13249Please don't take offense here....
But the difference between Uberlather and lather is quite a bit, a properly made Uber is like putting warm "Cool Whip" on your face, it's really, really, creamy.... There really it no comparison to regular lathers, it also is a waste of time and money, but as I always say "I'm worth it"...
ps:
Also one thing I should mention is that all soaps and all creams do not always mix well together, there are certain Uber's that are exceptional, and others that are total flops.... The 2 most sociable creams I have found that mix well with just about all soaps are, the Original Body Shop shave cream, (haven't tested their new one yet) and Kiss My Face creams....Last edited by gssixgun; 03-13-2009 at 08:24 PM.

Thanked: 1262You could get away using some cheap vdh or williams to make uberlather.
I have used vdh and conks before mixed with proraso or kmf.

Both TGR creams, and mama bear soaps lather great on their own.
Have you tried lathering these two products separately?
Thin lather is usually the result of too much water.
Also as others have said your scuttle may be too hot.
Skip the Glycerin, MB soaps area already glycerin based, you don't need extra.

I'm sorry to keep asking this, but WHY does everyone keep adding \glycerin? A good soap or cream should make great lather on its own.
Do you ant to know how to make lather from a soap? Watch this:
YouTube - Quick lather with boar
It's a boar brush, but the the only difference for badger would be to MAYBE give a small shake to remove a touch more water. That might not even be necessary.
No glycerin, no cream, just good thick lather.

Jim once you try an actual well done Uberlather you will feel the difference, I could write about it until my fingers bleed, and you will either try it and figure it out or you will decide it's a total waste of time and money and drop the whole idea...
Just adding glycerin really doesn't do all that much it is the entire process that makes the difference....
