After you do get the Tabac sample, please report back here and give your opinion on the scent. I'm curious to see what you think of it. Although I'm sure they exist, I can't recall anyone out there that has only a moderate opinion over Tabac's smell. It really does seem like people either find it pleasing or find it offensive.

Chris' wife was definitely in the hate it category. I think I remember he said he had to throw away the slice I gave him without even trying it. What was the combination she used to describe it, Lysol and Aqua Net?

Good memory, Ron. Yes, sorry to say my wife has veto power and she chose to use it in regard to Tabac. Yes, that was her description of the scent. Aerosol hair spray and Lysol. Not pine scented, lemon scented, etc. but the old Lysol spray in the can.

I exist!!!! I normally have strong opinions over scents. When I got my Tabac, I was waiting for a "WOW! I HATE (or LOVE) it!!" and it just never happened. It's squarelyu in the 'eh' category for me. Not really a nice scent, not really offensive. I am the only person I know with this opinion.
Even without a great scent, it is my 100% favorite soap. It's that good.

Actually, I feel pretty neutral about the smell too. I notice the smell, but it doesn't do anything for me one way or the other. I just like the way it shaves.

I agree with that...although i do like the scent...for the price and great shaves i get it would have to smell really bad for me to not buy it...although i wouldnt want to try to get a relaxing shave with a scent I hated...

So maybe the scent does play a part in me liking the soap...lol...i guess I just dont know...but it works for me.

I must admit I am quite picky about scents myself. I do realize through experience that the scent of a soap or cream can be different after actually used on the skin post shave. For me I have to like the scent while shaving and really even before shaving which contributes to an overall enjoyable shaving experience.

Quite some time ago I purchased a puck of what I believe was called Vanderhagen from drugstore.com. It got great reviews by most who had purchased it there which is why I decided to try it. The smell was so offensive to me and so strong (I don't like scents that are so strong that I can actually taste them unless it's a food item I like) that I chucked the puck before even trying it.

Aha! There are at least two of us! Pretty soon, we'll be classified as a new species, Straightshavus Tabacscent Neutralis as opposed to just odd mutation or subspecies.

I think I might be gettng weirder.

I'd like to reply on the regional angle to your question, Dustin. I personally don't know of any place in the Twin Cities that sells Tabac shaving soap. There is a perfume shop, I think it's in Burnsville Center, that sells Tabac cologne. I think the cologne, aftershave, and soap are near dead ringers to each other, and that'd give you an idea. I've always ordered Tabac products online.

I don't live in the metro area proper, but I'm in there 5 days a week for work, and usually on weekends. If you want, I could bring my Tabac cologne and aftershave in, we could meet somewhere, and you would be welcome to get a noseful. It might help you make the decision. Send me a PM. Some people can't stand Tabac's scent, but I like it. The soap is amazing, too.

    Don
