Thanked: 3Hi, gentlemen,
Do you use homemade sopas for shaving? Better than regulars? Do you add glycerin to your mixes?
Regards.

I often use the Bigelow cream with some glycerin added - it's my standby and I'm never dissapointed. I've tried uberlathering with other soap, but I find that "soap" dries me out - I also don't have $ to throw at the problem, so sticking with the regular for the moment does just fine.

I don't know what it is, but there's a difference. Regular soap doesn't cut it. You need shave soap, at least I do. I even got goat's milk shave soap from my favorite soap vendor and it wasn't any good. Stick to trusted shave soaps/creams and you'll be happier for it.
We have assumed control !

Thanked: 1195How's this???
I found a surprisingly good mix for uber, one that I found quite unexpectantly.
About a week ago I pulled out my current rotation soap, TGQ Leatherneck sampler. I looked in my lather bowl and there was still a dab of Castle Forbes Lime in there from my last shave - not quite enough for a full shave, but more than enough for uberlather. The result? A very pleasant aroma and a slick lather like no other!
Leatherneck and CF Limes...... who woulda thunk it???

Trumpers Coconut soap and D R Harris Arlington cream was great, both scent and performance wise, for me

Here is some food for thought for mixing scents etc. With as many soaps as I have they lose a good portion of their scent over time. I have in the past and will do so in the future fortify my older glycerin soaps that have lost a portion of their wonderful scents. I zap the glycerin bowl in the microwave until it is liquid and then mix some cologne of the same flavor [Bay Rum etc] into the bowl. I have done this several times and it works well. I have also taken an unscented soap and mixed in an aftershave [Aqua Velva Musk]. Your imagination and available scents [aftershave, cologne, EDT's, Bacon Fat, Garlic Oil, Whisky, WD-40] is what will determine your final product.

I like to blend menthol cream and glycerin base peppermint soap.

Thanked: 3Regular soap for uber
A friend of mine sent me some exquisite home made soaps. I mixed it with cream and a few drops of glycerin.
I think that, even when it appears to be a very slicky and nice lather, it dries a bit. I will uberlather with dedicated soap and cream tomorro and see.
Nevertheless, I use this high end soaps for cleaning my face before shaving and going to bed and it leaves me a smooth and sweet sensation on my skin.
Be well.

Most of my soaps are Charles's QED and they are strongly scented. I tried some QED Lime with Salter's lime and I felt like it was too much of a good thing. What I do now is use MWF for mixing cream and soap. The wool fat has no scent that I can discern so I only get the scent of the cream. I have never tried mixing glycerin into the mix.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
