Default Mama Bear lavender vanilla review

I just sampled Mama Bear's lavender vanilla shaving soap. erictski, from the forum, was kind enough to mail me a sample recently.

I received a healthy sized sample portion and melted it into a makeshift shaving mug (pyrex measuring cup). The soap is the color of spiced rum and translucent. The fragrance of this soap is strong. The scent even stuck to my fingers after handling it. The scent is strongly lavender with a hint of vanilla. A pleasant scent, but almost perfume-like. I don't think I could get away with smelling strongly of lavender all day, but most of the scent rinses off with the lather after shaving. I thought I could smell it a couple hours after shaving, but it may have been my imagination. I currently use TOBS sandlewood soap and the scent is not as "loud".

As for the lather, it was easy to get a lather going in the "mug", which I typically build in a cup. I applied to to my wet face with my badger brush and it covered my face well. The lather lasted through 60 laps of my razor on strop. I re-applied anyway and begun shaving. The lather reminded me a lot of the TOBS that I currently use. Same consistency. The lather lasted through my first pass. I re-wet my face and applied more lather for a second pass. The second lathering disappeared before I could finish my against the grain pass--that has not happened with other soaps. I might have left too much water on my face before applying, I'll try again tomorrow.

Overall, I like the soap and will use it for a few more shaves. I think if I buy Mama Bear soaps in the future I may opt for a more traditional scent.

    Thanks again erictski,

    Hope this is helpful.

Her soaps are awesome, and she does not skimp on the EO's and/or Fragrance. Try Sandalwood Vanilla or Spellbound woods, both are light, but wonderful. I really love her soaps and each come in their own screw top plastic jar, so you don't have to worry about what to put it in, or buy another wooden bowl or mug. You can buy 6 of her soaps and each has it's own tub...A nice little bonus.
