Really nice lady, her name is Fique (Fee Kay). I know she has the tallow version. Contact info is on her site.

    Enjoy

Here's some links, they all contain at least a little bit of different information in each:

P&G buys high-end brand The Art of Shaving | Business News | Regulatory News | Reuters
Gillette parent buys the Art of Shaving brand - Daily Business Update - The Boston Globe
Procter & Gamble buys chi-chi Art of Shaving - Business Courier of Cincinnati:

Kind of scary, I bought my first razor, strop, soap, brush, stand, bowl, aftershave and first oil from there. I hope it won't be my last. They must see something in the near future. While what they're purchasing it for at $60 million isn't a lot of green for them, I fear the same that everyone else is. I liked Best Buy back in the late 90's, but they gradually sold out and became in my opinion very similar to Walmart.

Well they literally are buying nothing but a name. Everything AOS sells is re branded from someone else that P&G could of done the same thing with. It should be interesting to see if P&G can/will keep those contracts or if we will just see fusion shave gel with a different label and an extra $10 on the price.

If we're lucky they'll give us a lavender fusion shave gel...

Isn't it the consensus that the soaps are made by Valobra? I think as long as no one buys Valobra, the world will still continue on.

You can't buy Valobra soaps in the AOS scents.

Maybe if they're dropped by AOS they will start making them for general sale, but you never know...

I am not sure how these rumors get started... I am also very fond of tallow for soapmaking. However, there is no reason why palm oil should not be used in shaving soap. The main difference in these oils is the ratio between startic/palmitic acids. By the way, the soapmaking properties of these fatty acids are similar. In fact, with the proper changes in formulation, I bet that you would not even notice the difference. I have used great soaps in which the main ingredient is palmitate and I have also used both oils in my soaps. I have even used waxes for my soaps with no adverse effect on the lathering properties. I believe that everyone is entitled to his opinion but there really should not be a reason for concern. From what I have read, people's concerns come from the difference in price between palm oil and tallow. This difference is too small to be significant in the price of the final product. When you buy shaving soap, you pay for the formulation and the fragrance more than for the rest of the ingredients. The case could be made that some carrier oils and conditioners are expensive as well, but these are rarely used and are often not the best for making shaving soaps. Gold is expensive but I think that it would make lousy soap ;-). I am not saying that every soap made with palm oil is good , but the take home message is not to miss out on a good soap because the list of ingredients starts with palmitate.

    Al raz.

The issue is not with the actual straights, TI makes pretty good razors. It is the uneducated people running the stores that make it a very bad place to buy a first straight razor. This is all coming from first hand experience.
