    Talking

I have replicated this experiment with the following recipe, and it works very well. A nice slick, cushiony lather.

One 4 ounce bar of unscented glycerin soap (Clearly Natural brand - about 85 cents at the grocery store)
    One teaspoon of glycerin
    One teaspoon of Jojoba oil
    1/4 teaspoon bentonite clay
    (all measurements are US units)

    1. Add the bentonite to the glycerin to make a paste. Get all the lumps out.
    2. Heat soap in 1 cup Pyrex storage bowl. Microwave for 10 seconds at a time until it is fully melted.
    3. Add glycerin/bentonite and jojoba oil to the melted soap and stir the mixture with a fork until it begins to cool and thicken - this will keep the bentonite suspended. It will look like grayish-green muddy water.
    4. Allow to cool fully and put on the plastic lid on the Pyrex bowl. Done!

Use the usual method for making lather in a separate bowl and you'll see great suds! Be sure to add enough water and really whip it. The extra glycerin and oil make a nice rich lather and it leaves your skin soft too, especially when you do the shave pre-prep with an initial rubbed-in lather and a hot towel for 2 minutes.

Would recommend melting the glycerin VDH soap together with the VDH Select , it adds up to a better soap .

I went to the store today to do the same thing, but no clay. I wanted to make my own soap and for 1 dollar I though this would be a great base. I"ve been using clearly natural in it's stock form for my WTG pass for 2 weeks now and it does a great job as is! But yeah, i'm going to add the clay, some b12, and some herbs to make scent, i'll let you know what it comes out like.

I made a batch recently where I used the base recipe above and added 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint oil and 1/2 teaspoon of menthol crystals. Seems OK, but it appears to change the consistency of the soap; it doesn't go onto the brush as easily and is a bit harder to lather well. Getting enough soap on the brush is the real key here. But it's VERY menthol flavored! Maybe I'll leave out the peppermint oil next time and see if that helps the consistency of the puck. It's cheap enough to play around with, that's for sure.

Glad and surprised to see my old thread again!
Where do you get the jojoba oil and glycerin? This new recipe looks like it could be a big improvement.

You can get the glycerin and jojoba oil at Whole Foods, I'm almost certain. But if that fails, you can always order from these places (at the great danger of getting another acquisition syndrome! - I now have to make lotions and cosmetics for SWMBO) Have a look around on these sites and you'll see what I mean.

I tried something that seems to shave pretty good. put 3 parts clearly natural in bowl, melted, then stired in 1 part Kings of shave gel. shaves pretty darn good, and lathers like crazy. I will need to get some clay on ebay, can't find it around here but when I do i'm sure it will help the glide.
