Thanked: 0Cheap Soaps?
I have been using Classic's soaps for some time but they've become rather expensive since I live in CA and have to pay both shipping AND sales tax, and they don't appear to be selling the three-packs anymore. Among the readily available store brands like Colgate, Burma Shave and Williams which one is halfway decent?

I've used all 3, and liked the Williams the best. Being about $0.97 at Wal-Mart doesn't hurt the wallet either.

Thanked: 0Williams is probably the best. If you really want to go cheep try a Dove bar.
My personal favorate is Col. Conk. It's a bit more expensive then Williams, but less expensive then most other brands out there. The only drawback is that it is a very soft soap, so it probably won't last as long per ounce as Williams. But for me it is worth it -- infact I consider it a good deal, but YMMV. I think knifecenter/shavecenter.com has the best price per bar right now at $2.95 for 2.25 OZ.

Didn't care for Colgate or (although you didn't mention it, I thought I would) Surrey.

Williams makes a nice lather and I always have a mug of it going. I use Surry too but be aware they make two kinds. One with glycerin and one without. Each has a distinct scent and lather differently too. The packages are almost identical with just a difference in the fine print description and in the color of the soap. The non-glycerin is white, the good stuff is a cream color.

Newdovo,
I am not sure the stroes even know there are two kinds. I was in an Eckard Drug store and saw the Surrey at a nice price so grabbed 4 cakes in what appear to be identical boxes. Once I ws ready to use them I wondered why the secong cake looked "discolored", turns out it was te glycerine version and the descriptive wording on teh box was slightly different. All were in the same single row in the store.
Sadly though fewer stroes are selling shaving items and those that do carry less choices. My local Walgreens had Surrey and Williams soap, Surrey brushes, Pinaud's Original and Bay Rum along with Florida Water. Now they have only Surrey brushes and soap and Pinaud's Original.
Sure miss my Florida water.

I saw Florida Water in a Walgreens store a couple months ago. Wasn't looking for it (mine's not empty yet), but noticed it. If it's a regional thing, and other locations still carry it, they may be able to do a special order to get it in to your local store. May be worth askin' about.
