Shave Cream Edible ?
Yeah I know it's a weird question.
I bought some Taylors of Old Bond Street shaving cream and it smelled so good that my ladyfriend felt compelled to taste it.
There seemed to be not really any bitterness or weird taste but this led to an obvious question... is shave cream basically non toxic? A little poisonous? A little bad for you? Can you eat a whole pot of it?
What do you say?

Thanked: 402Aaaw come on.
No its not edible. The stomach acid would probably neutralize its alkalinity but you don't need preservatives chelating agents and synthetical fragrances, do you...

Rather than trying shaving cream, she should stick with jalapeno_peppah's.
With that said, this thread should be closed.

Thanks for your offer to shut the thread down, I'm actually interested in what people have to say though.

Thanked: 317I'm not really sure what sort of feedback you expect. First of all, it's pretty obvious that none of it is meant to be eaten.
Beyond that, some of them are made from pretty harmless ingredients that probably wouldn't hurt you at all. Others contain lot's of chemicals that could make you quite ill or even cause serious injury if ingested in any meaningful quantity.
Pretty much everything is that way. There are all sorts of things, both natural and man made, that are harmless or even beneficial when applied properly, and quite dangerous if applied improperly.
I guess it just depends on your definition of "edible." If you mean is it a food-like substance that can be consumed for callories & nutrition, then no. If you mean is it safe to ingest, the answer is that some may be, and some may not be, but in any case it's pretty amazingly stupid to try. (no offense intended to your lady friend, but let's face it; you wouldn't go taking a swig of her perfume because it smelled good)

Thanked: 8Most shaving creams and soaps contain really toxic ingredients such as SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate). These ingredients are bad enough when they are absorbed by your skin into the bloodstream. I think if you are eating it you are just concentrating the posions. I would strongly recommend against doing it.

Depending on ingredients it may be toxic
Laxative probably
But if it is free of all the usual hazards in liquid soap, its probably no worse then kerosene
