    Default Punt This One

    Gentlemen,

Time for me to punt this one: Cremo Shave Cream.

After reading positive comments on this product, probably here, I ordered two 6-oz. tubes of the shave cream. Several days later, having tried the cream with and without a brush, following all the instructions on the tube, I finally chose to take my losses and walk the other way.

Cremo Shave Cream might work well for others. For me, however, it provided little cushion. With a brush, I had plenty of lather, yes, but the texture was thin. Without a brush, unless an Indy driver with my straight razor, I found myself constantly applying water to my face to keep it from drying. It still gave me little cushion.

Worst, I had to keep washing my hands with soap and drying the razor shank with a towel to prevent the razor from slipping.

In the end, my shaves were far from passable, and now I am stuck with two 6 oz. tubes of Cremo Shave Cream.

My regular rotation includes Taylor of Old Bond Street Rose shave cream, its counterpart by Trumper, Tabac soap, Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort unscented shave cream, Truefitt & Hill shave soap, Pre de Provence soap and cream and Caswell-Massey soap.

I am more than willing to try something new. Through the years I have eliminated many shave soaps and creams for various reasons. Musgo Real, Gold Dachs and several others had to go after a good tryout. I must include Cremo Shave Cream in that category.

With all due respect to the manufacturer Cremo Shave Cream, as well all the gentlemen who like it, I'm afraid I must punt this one.

    Regards,

    Obie

From looking at your lather rotaion it looks like you took a couple steps down with the Cremo. It's funny how the high end products will do that to a guy.

No shame in punting a product that doesn't work for you.

I agree. I've found myself punting quite a few products that a lot of other gents really love. The better my rotation gets, the less likely I am to put up with a mediocre product.

    Hi Obie,

Have you tried Trumpers soaps and creams? I'm addicted to them and I find they give a fantastic lather that doesnt dry out and give a really smooth slick shave.

I particularly like the Sandalwood range, they smell great!

I ran out of the soap this morning and unfortunately my refills have yet to arrive, hopefully they'll be there today when I get home..!

Trumpers do a tester pack with their creams in it, plus some colognes and shower gels, which is a really good way to see what their products are like.

I can thoroughly recommend the sandalwood soap and cream, both give a great lather.

    All the best,

    Stuart

    My dear Stuart,

Thank you for your note, and suggestions on Trumpers.

Oh, yes, through the years I have floated almost through all of their soaps, creams and aftershaves. Trumper's products are made in heaven. And, yes, their sandlewood range is delighted, I agree.

Currently I rotate the rose shave cream from both Trumpers and Taylor of Old Bond Street. Since I love Spanish Leather aftershave, I use versions by both Trumper and Taylor, too.

London is one of my most favorite cities in the world, and I have had the fortune of visiting it a number of times. Well, of course, every time I am in London, I go nuts in their shave shops.

I must admit, I am partial to British shave products. They know how to do it right.

    Thanks again for your thoughts.

    Regards,

    Obie

    Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your comments on Cremo Cream. I have passed the shave cream to my wife. She says it's all right for legs.

    Regards,

    Obie
