Are There any Creams Similar to Noxema w/ Dimethicone???
Hi guys,
I am still trying to gather all of my supplies to begin the straight shaving venture, and while swimming the vast sea of shaving soaps and creams I have become somewhat overwhelmed . So, I thought maybe I could start off with one that was similar in make up to the can type stuff I have used and liked for many years.
When using the dreaded Mach 3 I have always used Noxema's medicated for Sensitive skin which states it's active ingrediant to be 1% Dimethicone. I really like the way this stuff leaves my face feeling. It's hard to describe, but it is very similar to the way regular Noxema skin cream makes your skin feel, or the way Mentholatum makes your skin feel but with no burn at all..
I plan on trying all kinds of soaps and creams, I just thought it would be nice to find something similar to what I know I already like.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanked: 13245I just use regular ole' Noxema as my pre-shave, I put some on right before I exit the shower, then hot towel over it, HWR, lather up, Strop, hot towel over lather, HWR, Lather up and shave...
Whether it helps the shave or not I couldn't ever prove, but damn my face feels good after....

I've also used Noxema as a pre-shave. I find the scent of the C.O. Bigelow cream is similar to Noxema. Must the the camphor or menthol in both? I don't know about the dimethicone.

I don't think anywhere sells a sample pack, but The Shave Den sells sample sizes of all their products. They are super cheap and come in everything from unscented for sensitive skin to double menthol for those of us that like a chill.
Any there are at least 100 normal scents, all of which are available with or without menthol if I'm not mistaken. I think they have samples of major brands too, but don't quote me on that.

I don't know of any shave creams/soaps that have Dimethicone in them.
Dimethicone is found in a lot of hand creams and lotions and I think it is meant to help protect the skin from drying out.
If you are not allergic to shea butter, give either Insitute Karite, or Pre De provence shaves soaps or Provence Sante shave cream, all three of these products leave the skin feeling very good.

Hey Tolly,
I don't know a thing about dimethicone, however shaving cream / soap samples are available. Colleen at TGQ sells samples of her great soaps. I also asked for and received shave cream samples (all Trumper) when I placed an order with Shop for Shaving and Skincare Products - Geo F. Trumper Taylor of Old Bond Street Merkur Razors Borotalco Marvis Elgydium Claus Porto Soaps.
Just ask, many vendors have samples ready to ship.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi I just thought I would post a little info about dimethicone.
It's used in a lot of skin care products with good reason.
Here is the link where I got that information from:
MMS - Dimethicone
Dimethicone is also known as polydimethylsiloxane, or silicone oil. Silicone oils are derived from silica (quartz is a well known silica).
You are probably wondering what dimethicone can do for you. Check this list out!
- adds slip and glide
- allows normal skin transpiration
- reduces stickiness
- imparts velvety skin feel
- conditions the skin and hair
- skin protectant (this means over-the-counter drug! so be careful about the claims you make on the label and in literature)
Typical Usage Rates: 0.5 - 10.0%

I've always thought Proraso pre/post shave cream is a dead ringer for Noxema....
