Cream vs. Soap
Though I have not been wet shaving very long I was wondering which is better or easier,or is it just personal preference?Right now I have only been using creams,C.O. Bigelow from B&BW,and some samples I recieved of most of what T.F.& H. offers.

Thanked: 1262i have heard creams are easier to learn with.
It is all the same to me. The hardest part starting out is learning what the correct consistency of the lather should be.
Once you understand that, it is just added water until perfecto

I think it really is a matter of personal preference. I learned on soap, and I have used several soaps since, but I really do prefer cream. It also depends on whether you face leather or not, as I have heard that many soap users prefer than method. I am trying my hand at face lathering now, so my preferences may change.
The CO Bigelow is great, I used it for over a year. But I really love the TOBS creams.

I find cream easier, but I do like Col. Conk's soap as well. But, for the beginner, I believe cream would be easier.
Oh, I do not know what Uberlather is, but I happened onto the soap-cream combination yestersay and it was nice. I do not have any glycerin, but I may start looking for some to get a real nice lather. This is part of the fun of SR shaving--there are man possibilities to explore.

Creams provide more cushion and protection, where soaps are thinner and give better feedback while you shave. It's personal preference. Do a search in this forum and you'll find hundreds of Soap vs Creams and reviews....

Thanked: 431Glycerin
You can find the glycerin at most major supermarkets. Super WalMart has it.

I enjoy mostly creams but also like to combine them. Test some out and see what works best for you.
I have tried many soaps and now I can say that I prefer tallow based creams and soaps!
Try a little of everything...

glycerin - amen
Glycerin saved my bacon...it really made all the difference between burn and no burn. I use it religiously with the Bigelow Cream.

I got some Burts Bee's shave cream the other day just to find out what it was like. I much prefer the soap but I will find out if adding the cream and some gylcerine makes it the uber-cream of story and song.
